About the Role

 

We are looking for a motivated and eager geophysicist to work within our exploration team in USA on projects across the globe. This is a development role working within a diverse high-performing team in dynamic environments.

 Working with the team geoscientists, this role will help acquire good quality geophysical data and integrate that data into working geological models.  You’ll enjoy a balance of time in the office and field, leading varied and interesting operations across our exploration portfolio.

 

As a Specialist Geophysicist you will:

 

  • Support exploration decisions through fully integrated use of geophysical data into exploration models.
  • Have a proficiency in method selection, survey design and modelling strategies for porphyry targets deep below post mineral cover.
  • Evaluate contractor services, survey project management and be accountable for delivery of project appropriate geophysical datasets.
  • Have experience in QA/QC, data processing/reduction, generation of derivative products and image processing for common airborne and ground geophysical methods.
  • Be experienced in collection and integration of petrophysical data into geophysical models using industry standard software packages.
  • Be geology focused with ability to communicate geophysical results into geologically relevant targeting models.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and build contingency plans with a collaborative approach to advance the larger goals of a multidiscipline exploration team.
  • Has a basic understanding of mineral deposit geology and Mineral System fundamentals.
  • Identify, engage, and successfully communicate with non-technical vocabulary as required, with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate positive outcomes for exploration projects.
  • The role will be a mix of field support, including travel to the field projects to support the execution of geophysical surveys, and office-based survey design, modelling and data integration.
  • Maintain and develop relationships within the geophysical community. 
  • Desired: Good working knowledge of industry standard software such as Geosoft Oasis Montaj, Maxwell, Model Vision, ArcGIS Pro, Geoscience Analyst.   

About You

 

You are a forward-thinking geoscientist with a passion for the science of discovery.  You have a university degree with a focus on geoscience preferably geophysics / 1y experience minimum (could be summer jobs) but 10y experience max.  You have experience working in the field on geophysical data acquisition and program execution.  

 

You will have a sound understanding of exploration geophysical systems, data acquisition and interpretation and geophysical modeling in 3D space.  You enjoy an inclusive environment and have a strong focus on safety, collaboration, and innovation.  Your enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to work in a team will enable decision making that deliver value, promoting our success through the broader BHP business.
