About the role

The Specialist Communications role is responsible for supporting the execution of Olympic Dam’s communications strategy. The Specialist Communications has a core role in developing and executing internal and external communications planning, coordination and content. 


The accountabilities of the role include:
  • Build and maintain effective relationships to collaborate with a wide range of internal stakeholders including corporate and Asset-based communications teams, Olympic Dam leadership and operational teams
  • Drive internal engagement within Olympic Dam’s operational site and office-based workforce using a suite of communications tools
  • Support leadership communication, including internal communication and external speaking engagements
  • Enhance Olympic Dam’s social media activity through strategic, planned and engaging content
  • Coordinate Asset-wide Olympic Dam leadership, company initiative and/or issues-based communication
  • Travel to site (Olympic Dam / Roxby Downs) on a regular basis to ensure alignment with operational needs and assess the efficacy of internal engagement programs
  • Support BHP Olympic Dam’s South Australian proactive and reactive media engagement activities where required
  • Participate in any other projects or key tasks as directed by the Principal Communications and Head of Corporate Affairs South Austraila

About You


To be successful in this role, we are looking for some with the following skills and experience:
  • Experience working in an ASX-listed company environment or equivalent
  • Experience in the resources / energy sector desirable
  • Working in a matrix model with multiple reporting lines
  • Communications strategy, planning and execution – in particular digital media and internal communication
  • Issues management
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Media relations experience desirable
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
