Nickel West Kalgoorlie is seeking a self-motivated Non Destructive Testing (NDT) Specialist to spearhead the roll out of this maintenance function. The primary purpose of this function is to support the continuous efforts in maximizing the smelter asset availability. Successful applicant will need to have a commitment to safety, attention to details and able to demonstrate great work ethic. The role also offers individual to develop further in other condition monitoring techniques e.g. Vibration Analysis.

Reporting to the Senior Reliability Engineer within Maintenance Analysis & Improvement department, you will be responsible to perform routine scheduled and unscheduled inspections for the nickel smelter operation by performing the following activities:
  • Execute routine and non-routine NDT which include UT,PT,MT and prepare reports on findings
  • Record identified defects in the CMMS for further corrective work and escalate urgent/immediate issues to maintenance supervisors
  • Set up and calibration of NDT equipment and maintain records
  • Develop and maintain NDT database
  • Assist with development of work instruction, thickness test maps etc.
  • Assist Reliability Engineers with Condition Monitoring of various equipment 
  • Support asset management team in troubleshooting, investigations and implementation of improvement initiative

Coordination with maintenance planner/scheduler and asset teams in prioritizing, scheduling and alignment of NDT and ConMon jobs

About You

  • AINDT Level II or ISO 9712 or equivalent in Ultrasonic, Magnetic particle and Dye Penetrant
  • Minimum of 3 year experience in the field of NDT
  • The ability to work unsupervised and autonomous
  • Eager to learn and expand other Condition Monitoring Techniques e.g. Vibration Analysis
  • Vibration analysis level 1 certification is advantageous
  • Current W.A. C class driver’s license, Working at Heights, Confined Space and EWP tickets are beneficial
  • Computer Literacy with Microsoft suite (MS Words, Excel and PowerPoint) and experience with CMMS (such as SAP) will be advantageous

Nickel West Kalgoorlie

Kalgoorlie is the largest inland city in Western Australia and due to its central location is positioned at the heart of the Goldfields as a vibrant mining town and a major gateway to the Eastern States. Although fairly isolated, the City of Kalgoorlie/Boulder offers modern shopping facilities, a huge variety of sports, and schooling for all ages up to high school. The Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter receives nickel concentrate from our mining operations in Leinster and Mt Keith as well as from our Third Party Feed concentrator in Kambalda. Nickel West Kalgoorlie incorporates a flash furnace smelter, converters and an acid plant which has the capacity to produce up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of nickel matte.
All Kalgoorlie roles are residential, FIFO is not an option.  Nickel West Kalgoorlie is a non-smoking operation.
