Reporting to the Mining Manager – Leinster Underground, an exciting and rewarding opportunity currently exists for an experienced Alternate Underground Manager at our underground operations in Leinster. The role presents a great opportunity for the right person to make a real difference in the revitalisation of Leinster underground as a world-class underground nickel mine. As a strong leader, you will thrive with the responsibility to inspire and lead change. You will promote and demonstrate integrity and an overriding commitment to health and safety and play an active role in developing, mentoring and coaching a high performing mining operations team. 

This position is part of the leadership team responsible for the underground mining operations at Leinster to achieve project and budget targets and maintain compliance with the BHP standards and the statutory requirements of the WA Mines Regulations and Act.  Activity is centred on the development of the B11 block cave, which is BHP’s first, and is located beneath the historical Perseverance SLC, and on the development and extraction of the Venus orebody utilising a number of different mining methods.

This position will demand the ability to communicate regularly and effectively with personnel at all levels and across different departments onsite including operations, technical services, mobile and fixed plant maintenance, and projects. The position will also regularly communicate with and interact with external service/functional departments.

About You

In order to be eligible for this role, the candidate will be required to have the following:
  • A valid WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency, or the ability to obtain one via mutual recognition from a qualification from a recognised jurisdiction. 
  • Working knowledge of underground hard rock mining methods and techniques and their practical application, with experience in caving and open stoping with paste fill operations considered an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a leader of a workforce and various service departments.
  • With demonstrated organisational and planning skills, you will identify and organise the resources required to ensure operational targets are achieved. You will also play a key role in the identification of project opportunities and instigate continuous improvement practices to add value to the business

Nickel West Leinster

Nickel West Leinster is located 375 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.  The operation sources nickel ore from the Leinster Underground Mine and Cliffs Underground Mine before crushing and processing to produce a concentrate.  The Leinster Village and Township offer a unique lifestyle with all the modern conveniences – an Olympic size swimming pool, health and fitness centre, race-course and even an 18 hole golf course.
