About the role

At the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter, the Ancillary Services Area Engineer role is to provide technical support for the Ancillary Service equipment that supports the operation of a Flash Furnace including a waste heat boiler, power generation systems, effluent treatment and flux preparation.  Working closely with the Services Production team and Superintendent Production they are responsible for responsible for day-to-day troubleshooting, critical process variable monitoring as well as smaller scale projects designed at improving cost, throughput and process safety.
Furthermore, they are responsible for working with our water management partners in managing boiler water chemistry.
  • Reporting to the Process Control and Improvement Superintendent, you will:
  • Provide technical support to the Services Production team
  • Engage in process troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Execute cost improvement projects as per the Technical Business plan
  • Monitor critical process safety variables and participate in process safety improvement
  • Manage boiler water chemistry and associated controls
  • Provide run-down and commissioning technical support
  • Complete process investigations and develop clear and precise actions


About You

  • Chemical/Process Engineering or Metallurgy qualification
  • Experience related to smelting operations, with a focus on waste heat boilers and power generation systems will be beneficial but not essential
  • Demonstrated sound analytical and problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with risk management processes and tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate and interact with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to work within a flexible team environment
