About the role

We are currently seeking two Apprentice Coordinators to join the team to develop and maintain apprentice programs that are delivered safely, within budget and on schedule, as well as employing a continuous improvement lens over the apprenticeship program. 

This is an exciting opportunity for safety focused individuals, with strong leadership and influencing skills who also demonstrates a proactive approach to mentoring apprentices. 

These roles are offered back to back on an 8/6 roster and can be either FIFO from Perth or residentially based in Newman.  

As an Apprentice Coordinator, you be responsible for:
  • Engaging with apprentices and line stakeholders, to provide support and enable capability through program management and monitored journey progress and development. The includes the coordination and management of training contracts, rotations, secondments to industry, monitoring and updating of training journals and training plans;
  • Providing pastoral care to apprentices within region;
  • Providing advice to Line Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors on Apprenticeship governance issues and development planning and the use of development actions such as coaching, mentoring and pastoral care within region
  • Monitoring performance of Training Provider for Apprenticeship participants;
  • Participating in the development of and oversee of the site readiness training program for 1st year apprentices;
  • Coordinating and participating in recruiting processes for apprenticeships;
  • Liaising with external authorities for apprenticeships;
  • Engaging with local high schools and community organisations to encourage local students to prepare for employment within BHP;
  • Maintaining training and journey management data of all allocated regions apprentices in all programs, via the BHP Apprentice and Trainee tracker (Job Ready); and
  • Managing allocated budget for apprentice trade studies and development training.

About You

As a Training professional, you are have a proven track record of developing, implementing and managing apprenticeship programs that make a difference to others and positively impact the needs of a large and complex business.  It is important that you have previously worked with RTO’s and had exposure to audit process and governance frameworks.  A qualification in Training and Assessment would be beneficial, as would previous trade experience within mining.    

You will be a strong communicator with have good listening skills that help you in knowing when and how to adapt your message and can easily build relationships with a wide array of stakeholders.   Additionally, you are passionate about leading and coaching apprentices to meet their potential and have insight into the challenges that can be faced and provide paths forward to ensure success.
