About the role

This role provides the opportunity to work within a great team in either Perth or Port Hedland or split between the two – whichever works for you!
This analytically focused position plays a critical part in the identification of issues and management of risk of BHP’s rail network.  You’ll also be responsible for ensuring work completed complies with statutory and internal safety standards to ensure that our people, stakeholders and assets are safe and the risks appropriately managed.
With a curious mind and a keen eye for detail you’ll be involved in the complex analysis of data, system management and engagement with a wide group of stakeholders in the company to improve our rail asset.
Your ideas and contributions will be truly valued from the team and wider business and you’ll have input into scoping of improvement / alignment works to be carried out on critical BHPBIO Rail systems.
This role would suit someone who has leadership qualities and is looking to build their career by providing leadership to a diverse team of technical specialists.
Location
This role offers both FIFO 5/2/4/3and Residential options. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.
The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

About You

You’ll be a true team player who proactively and with an analytical minded and enjoys navigating through complex data to provide risk adverse and innovative solutions. To be set up for success in this role you will have a tertiary qualification in a STEM or IT field. We are considering diverse professional backgrounds for this role so a specific discipline is not required.
A passion for safety and an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development are required and strong written and verbal communication skills.
We will also be looking for candidates who are able to demonstrate the following:
  • Must be able to work proactively operate at a high standard autonomously
  • Analytical mindset and the ability to analyse performance data and drive insights
  • Positive curiosity and natural integrator and strong team player
  • Structured thinking and problem solving
  • Must be able to manage complex systems environments
  • Experience with railroad asset protection systems (preferred but not critical)
  • Experience with database administration and operation
  • Experience in programming for SQL, vantage point, GIS, Ramsys and MDS (preferred but not critical)
  • Technical: A minimum of 3 years working in the railway industry with 12 months in a technical position  (preferred but not critical)
  • Experience using SAP (preferred but not critical)
  • Good computer skills – especially Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent time management and work prioritisation
