About the role

Reporting to the Lead Track & Civil Engineer, within the Governance and Technical Stewardship Team, you will provide governance oversight of the civil infrastructure associated with the railroad linking the BHP Pilbara mines and port. You will also undertake the following:
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to the young Engineers 
  • Provide professional technical support for the site and project departments
  • Identify and implements improvements, risk reduction and cost saving initiatives
  • Monitor compliance to asset blueprints and accountable for auditing activities.
  • Ensuring all blueprint changes are managed through the Management of Change Process
  • Evaluate engineering changes to the civil assets associated to the railroad, including embankments, formations, cuttings, drainage structures and roads
  • Review and approval of technical civil & rail drawings and specifications, along with responses to technical queries
  • Support and adherence to the 1SAP and Rail Engineering Work Management Process
  • Ensuring project designs meet engineering design standards and specifications

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following: 
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering are essential
  • Experience in civil/rail engineering consultancies would be advantageous      
  • High level of technical and practical experience with civil infrastructure
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft suite essential
  • Ability to coach and mentor to encourage high performance
  • Ability to communicate confidently at all levels 
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships through communication and engagement capabilities
  • Proven commitment to health, safety, environment and sustainable development
  • At least 5 years experience in civil engineering with exposure to rail highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with associated non-process infrastructure, hydrology, rail and roadworks design will be highly advantageous
  • Current full Australian “C” class motor vehicle license 


As the successful applicant, you will be working a 5 days on, 2 days off 4 days on 3 days off FIFO or a 5/2 residential roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities. 
The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position, you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
