About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Condition Monitoring Technician to join our fixed plant maintenance team at Whaleback. This is a permanent residential position based in Newman on a lifestyle roster. 
Reporting to the Supervisor Condition Monitoring, the Technician is responsible for assessing and providing information on the health of the assets. Provide support and apply knowledge of maintenance planning to optimize maintenance tasks and quality of work. 

Main responsibilities include: 
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Maintain a high profile in the promotion of safe working practices and ensure all monitoring of tasks are to a high standard and in accordance with HSEC policy
  • Conduct online primary inspections
  • Monitoring tasks on equipment at intervals which are in accordance with formal inspection procedures and Maintenance Strategy
  • Collect and trend data to enable accurate predictions on the life span of equipment
  • Keep histories on all maintenance performance on monitored equipment
  • Provide reports and make recommendations to other maintenance personnel

This role will also assessing priorities and co-determining the most appropriate course of action for coverage of monitoring activities, expansion of the condition monitoring program and repair options.

About You

As the successful candidate you will ideally possess the following:
  • Trade certificate in Mechanical Engineering – required 
  • Vibration Cat 2 qualification – highly desirable 
  • Oil Analysis Level 1 or 2 desirable
  • Ultrasonic Thickness Testing level 1 minimum
  • SAP experience would be advantageous

In this residential role you will be based in Newman, Western Australia.  You will be working at the closely located ‘Mount Whaleback’ mine site, which at more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide is the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world. 

The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities.  As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
