About the role

The Control Systems Engineer is an expert in the field of Fixed Plant Control Systems. You will support the end-to-end service within the sub-functions and assists the business in meeting its objectives by providing a stable, reliable and secure environment. This role provides leadership and guidance to the technical resources in support of operational and projects teams. 

You will also support the control system platform strategies, plans and schedules within the area of responsibility for all deployed technologies to ensure Fixed Plant Control Systems are maintained, and equipment and infrastructure is maintained in compliance with, work instructions and defined processes, and work schedules to achieve optimal maintenance outcomes. Analysis and Improvement of Control Systems form part of your daily routines within your area of responsibility.

Reporting to the Superintendent OT Improvement Processing, within the Technology OT Operations team your accountabilities will include:
  • Management and governance of Process Control Systems and Networks (PCN)
  • Provides leadership, support and maintaining Process Control environment policy, process and procedures;
  • Develops/maintains technology standards and processes for Process Control Systems
  • Responsible for the execution of safe systems of work, utilising existing work management processes;
  • Responsible for the safe execution of Incident and maintenance activities that reduce failure rates (MTBF) and downtime of IT/OT equipment across BHP Olympic Dam;
  • Executes 1SAP Work Management and Service Management operational processes to drive consistent service delivery for the entire scope of accountabilities; and
  • Manages ongoing technology delivery to service level agreements from projects to application and asset owners.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have 5+ years relevant post-qualification experience (i.e. preferably mining within an engineering function), including technologies such as Industrial Networks, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, Siemens and GE with reference to their Industrial Process Control systems (PLC’s, SCADA, Networks, Software and peripheral devices) is essential.  You will also have a thorough understanding of industrial instrumentation and communication protocol, topologies and have an understanding of system components and experience in hardware and software maintenance.  You will have solid experience providing operational support for mission-critical services in large-scale environments, preferably mining/resources.    

Previous experience in managing Control Systems within the engineering technology and hydrometallurgical mining environment with exposure/experience of Underground Mining, Milling/Grinding, Leaching, Floatation, Smelter and Refinery within a high demand environment is a requirement for this role.  Advanced Process Control – enhancements and optimisation with an industrial process environment with the understanding around control loops optimisation will be highly regarded.  You will have exposure/experience in Functional Safety, ideally in the Mining or the Resources Industry (machine or process safety systems). 
 
Ideally, you will have a tertiary qualification in Engineering, Information Technology, Business or related discipline. You will have a thorough understanding of industrial instrumentation and communication protocol and topologies, as well as wireless communication (802.11) and an understanding of system components and experience in hardware and software maintenance.
 
As the successful candidate, you will be highly organised and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (including root-cause analysis) with the ability to prioritise effectively in a high-pressure environment. You will be an excellent team player who can also work in a stand-alone capacity. Your oral and written communication skills will be well developed, and you will be able to work collaboratively and build relationships at all levels.
 
Familiarity with SAP and ServiceNow (or similar ITSM systems) is advantageous. You will have a good under understanding and knowledge of IT monitoring tools (i.e. Solarwinds, Ciscoworks) and the use and configuration of Asset Health Monitoring Tools. Exposure to Safety systems and the communication layer is also highly desirable.
 
Registration with Engineers Australia and Functional Safety (TuV certification) is preferred but not essential.
