About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Ore Handler Controller to contribute to achieving mine production targets. Primarily through the coordination of rail equipment, monitoring and optimising plant, and responding to faults while at all times ensuring an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment and sustainable operation of equipment.

Reporting directly to the Mine Control Centre Supervisor, you will play a key role in identifying opportunities for improvement (production & maintenance related), capturing accurate delay data and escalating repetitive or extended delays. This role places a high priority on encouraging and maintaining good relationships with key operational personnel on site and contributing to a ‘one team’ approach within the Mine Maintenance Team.

In this role you will:

  • Comply to and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day
  • Control and monitor the Rail CITECT System remotely from the Mine Control Centre, demonstrating an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment and sustainable operation of equipment
  • Be responsible to ensure rail production targets are achieved safely in accordance with the Mine Operating Plan (MOP), while maintaining and operating equipment to optimum operating parameters
  • Liaise with interfacing departments and fixed plant assets across the mine, including radio coordination with field personnel and planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Escalate faults, identify production and maintenance improvements and actively participate in fault finding investigations, as well as problem resolution with associated rail and plant assets
  • Capture and report accurate production and delay data in association with relevant mine departments
  • Develop close working relationships with mine personnel to ensure that all plant downtime issues are escalated correctly and rectified immediately
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations

About You

  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
  • Demonstrable experience developing strategies and executing plans
  • Highly developed analytical, problem solving and decision making ability
  • The ability to successfully work within a high performing team environment with the ability to influence stakeholders and build effective working relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior experience with control room operations and or sound understanding of and exposure to Olympic Dam Mine (or similar) operations are desirable
