About BHP

Join our new South Flank expansion

The South Flank Project is an expansion of BHP's existing Mining Area C hub, located approximately 130 km by road north-west of the town of Newman. This project has potential to become one of the largest standalone iron ore processing centres in the world, within reach of several billion tonnes of high-grade ore.

Embracing inclusion and diversity to create a vibrant culture that represents the communities in which we live, South Flank is focused on high performance, flexible work arrangements, strong Indigenous participation and gender balance.

This is a rare opportunity for a dynamic individual to be part of something big – to work in an innovative team, with evolving technology, and playing a pivotal role in creating a world class mine.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent of Analysis & Improvement, this Reliability Conveyor Systems  Specialist role will ensure optimal reliability of the fixed plant conveyor equipment and adherence to work plans and statutory requirements.

You will be responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing and updating maintenance work strategies and inspections on the Fixed Plant conveyor systems. You will also be implementing condition based maintenance practices, data acquisition and analysis on equipment, all whilst monitoring wear on the conveyor and ore transfer equipment, and developing operating improvements to prolong wear package life.

Some of your other duties will include:
  • Implementing and monitoring lubrication programs
  • Conducting root cause failure analysis investigations and defect elimination projects
  • Initiating the modification of engineering and equipment standards
  • Have an understanding of the dynamic responses of complex overland conveyors
  • Provide organisational governance in the application of 1SAP processes and promote understanding and compliance to 1SAP principles

About You

To be successful in this role you must have previous experience executing conveyor maintenance. Our preferred candidate  will be a self-reliant contributor with distinctive proficiency in the maintenance area with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working with overland conveyors. You will have detailed knowledge of principles and concepts related to operating and maintaining operational equipment.

An engineering qualification or equivalent is desirable, but not necessary. You should have great stakeholder management skills and ideally you will have experience in reliability centred maintenance program implementation, and large scale materials handling.

  What we offer you

Working on our new South Flank operation, we will provide you an environment where health and wellbeing are seen as a pre-requisite for safety and production. People are empowered, collaboration enabled and teams are connected to the strategy and plan. Our workforce is flexible, inclusive and diverse.

This role will be based in our Perth office initially on a 5 days on, 2 days off roster and then transition to a fly in fly out basis to our South Flank site in early 2020. During your time in the Perth office, site travel will be required. Candidates in pursuit of flexible work arrangements are encouraged to apply.
