About the role

Reporting to Lead Electrical Engineer, the Instrumentation and Controls Engineer delivers technical leadership and engineering governance to BHP’s Olympic Dam operations in the field of instrumentation and process controls supporting the plant to achieve safety, production, quality and cost objectives.  
Please note this position is based at Adelaide, operating on a Monday to Friday roster, with frequent site travel to Olympic Dam required. 

In this role you will: 

  • Design, document and implement enhancements and modifications to existing systems
  • Review of engineering design quality, performing the role of approver across a variety of projects
  • Provide engineering design input and support for critical operational projects 
  • Technical Support for the operation teams on site 
  • Actively participate in BHP’s field leadership program

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering;
  • Extensive control and instrumentation experience in a heavy industry environment;
  • Knowledge of configuring and faults diagnosis of DCS, PLC, SCADA, RTU Communication and Control Loops;
  • Design, implementation and Commissioning of new control loops;
  • Preparation of technical assessment and scope of work documentation, which would include Cable Schedules, termination diagrams, loop diagrams, functional descriptions;
  • IO assignment, Junction box layouts, Cause & Effect matrix, Graphics, Power Supply distribution scheme;
  • In depth knowledge of field instruments including pressure, flow, temperature, level, density, pH and gas analysers;
  • Broad experience in PLC, Citect, SCADA and interfaces with proprietary OEM controls
  • Familiar with engineering standards AS, IEC, and IEEE;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience in documenting ideas and concepts for stakeholder input; and
  • Functional safety and hazardous area classification and design knowledge would be an added advantage.
