About the role

BHP’s Commercial activities are undertaken through a centralised Commercial organisation with a network of offices across the world supporting our major customer markets and distribution of product from our operations. Within Commercial, the Market Analysis & Economics (MAE) team provides forecasting, analysis and research services to the wider group, as a guide for strategic decision making. The team has representation across Singapore, Shanghai, Delhi, Houston, Santiago, London and Perth.

This position can be located in Singapore, Shanghai or Melbourne.

MAE is currently seeking a Principal Technology Analyst to join its Energy and Technology Research team. The role is responsible for developing BHP’s house view on technology trends that will have the largest impact on our markets and external environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience with a demonstrable track record in analysis and forecasting of emerging trends and technologies. The role will be located in Singapore, Melbourne, or Shanghai.

Key Accountabilities

·       Contribute to the design and execution of a dynamic emerging technology research and analysis agenda.
·       Build and maintain analytical frameworks to identify, monitor and write about emerging trends and technologies affecting BHP’s external environment.
·       Contribute to BHP’s thought leadership endeavours.
·       Maintain the highest standards of professional integrity, consistent with BHP’s charter values.
·       Engage constructively with key internal stakeholders, including other MAE analysts, the wider Commercial team, Portfolio Strategy, and executive teams.
·       Design, manage and execute large-scale internal and external research projects.
·       Produce insightful written research and presentations for a variety of audiences.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess

·       Advanced quantitative and qualitative research skills.
·       A track record of understanding emerging technology impacts.
·       A strong research network within the technology research community.
·       An ability to extract actionable insights under conditions of uncertainty.
·       Advanced English language verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to distill complex material to non-specialist audiences.
·       A superior working knowledge of technology diffusion, economics and industrial trends.
·       Intermediate to advanced Excel modelling capability.
·       Familiarity with data visualisation software, such as Spotfire or Tableau.
·       Experience in energy and/or economic analysis desirable.
·       At least an honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with postgraduate qualifications preferred.
