About the role

Working in our Mine Surface Production team you will provide specialist advice and execute analysis and benchmarking of the Production function's end-to-end performance. The Mine Surface Production team manages all Surface Backfill production including Cement Aggregate Fill (CAF) Plant operations, Quarry operations, Surface Drilling, Backfill Placement, and Surface Material Haulage.

You will identify and implement a portfolio of improvement initiatives that enable functional excellence and support business priorities for continuous improvement to ensure ongoing success of the Olympic Dam operation. This role is specifically focused on the Surface Material Movement and Quarry operations, as well as the planning inputs to generate the Monthly Production Plan, 2 Year Budget, and 5 Year Plan for the Department. Open-Cut or Quarry engineering/operational experience is preferred. 

This position is based at Olympic Dam on a 5/2 residential roster or 5/2, 4/3 FIFO roster from Adelaide.

  In this role you will:
  • Prepare inputs to form the Monthly Production Plan, 2 Year Budget, and 5 Year Plan
  • Provide feedback to the Planning function to improve future execution plans, designs, schedules and forecasts
  • Identify functional capability gaps and recommend improvement opportunities
  • Compile reports and provide expertise to other sub-functions in analysis of production performance indicators and metrics
  • Implementation of the BHP Contractor Management Framework
  • Review and refine relevant operating standards, procedures and work instructions to ensure safe systems of work are embedded and effective
  • Engage with Engineering for modifications needed to plant and equipment
  • Build cross-functional relationships with Execution, Maintenance, Planning, and other Analysis & Improvement teams
  • Liaise with operational crews to ensure that new ideas are developed and practically implemented

About You

  • Tertiary qualified or with extensive operational experience
  • Technical qualifications in relevant fields are preferable such as mining engineering or finance
  • Experience in Open-Cut or Quarry operations
  • Exposure to Six Sigma or other aligned improvement methodologies
  • Ability to influence, engage with & communicate effectively across multiple levels, business units and functional areas
  • Utilise an analytical thought process with lateral and innovative solution focus
  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’
