About IPRO
BHP Western Australia Iron Ore’s Integrated Production & Remote Operations (IPRO) team manages the Iron Ore supply chain via scheduling, forecasting, deviation management, controlling and inventory accounting across mine, rail and port operations. With an over-arching focus on safety, the IPRO is a dedicated team that improves productivity, safety and environmental impact. 

About the role

Our production scheduling team has recently created a new role – Engineer Mine Systems, which is part of the broader IPRO division. The team is based both in Perth and at our sites across the Pilbara. They generate weekly to two year mine schedules, and the key mine designs which enable successful project execution.

This is an opportunity to utilise your extensive scheduling experience whilst leading works to identify best practices for standard operation procedures. You’ll be creating technical documentation to support these standards, and monitoring compliance.

To support the strategic upskilling of our workforce, we’ll be asking you to provide crucial support in the development of capability matrices for all roles within our production scheduling team. You’ll also be regularly interacting with, and potentially mentoring other Schedulers / Engineers.Innovation is continually transforming the way we work at BHP. As such, any suggestions you may have on process improvement will be welcome – especially if they add commercial or operational value to our business.

Reporting to the Superintendent (Mine Scheduling & Integration), other key focus areas will include:
  • Championing efficient and effective mine scheduling practices.
  • Supporting mine fleet productivity initiatives.
  • Assisting the Superintendent and broader team with reporting.
  • Contributing to mines productivity investigations.
This role is available as a full time Perth role with expectations around frequency of site visits to ensure adequate engagement with our site based stakeholders. Conversely we will also consider a FIFO arrangement with suitable time in Perth office, where the role requires, if that is more attractive to the successful applicant.

About You

Do you enjoy collaborating and influencing across a broad stakeholder group? Do you have experience in short-medium term mine scheduling? If so, this could be your opportunity to further develop your passion for mentoring others whilst seeking out productivity initiatives.

You should enjoy problem solving, in depth analytics and be able to confidently make presentations.

The following attributes will greatly assist your success in role:
  • A genuine commitment to safety and sustainable development.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD and scheduling software (such as Vulcam, Alastri or XACT).
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to positively influence others.
We are also open to considering individuals with a robust working knowledge of mine scheduling who may not possess a degree.

If you hold a Quarry Manager certificate, or have certification in continuous improvement methodologies, this would be well regarded.
