About the role

As a Project Engineer reporting to the Lead Project Engineer the successful candidates will be responsible for delivering some high priority OPEX/CAPEX projects from our portfolio.
Other responsibilities will include:
  • Providing input into the Modifications and Small Projects portfolio and the related budgets, plans and schedules.
  • Where required, supporting feasibility studies, cost-benefits analysis, impact assessments and project business cases to obtain project approvals.
  • Producing the specified key deliverables within projects in a timely manner to an appropriate quality.
  • Managing the project cost according to budget and rectifying any variances.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Cultivating positive relationships through effective engagement, communication and consultation.
  • Undertaking quality field leadership activities to review current activities, practices and processes, and identifying any gaps for improvement.
  • Engage and manage contractors consistent with the BHP Contractor Management Framework.

About You

Drawing on your previous experience in delivering small/medium Projects (Value up to $10M US), and formal qualification (Grad Cert, Diploma or similar) in Project Management you will have solid understanding of full-cycle Project Management. Regardless of the industry you are working in, if you are confident in autonomously delivering Projects we are interested in hearing from you! 

Your natural confidence and exceptional interpersonal skills will enable you to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, which will be key in communicating progress and ensuring project alignment to stakeholder requirements. Strong aptitude in commercial and contractor management will be highly regarded as you will be required to negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders. A C-Class driver’s license will be a mandatory requirement for this position.

You will have the option in this role of being either FIFO 5/2 4/3 (flexible rosters available) from Perth or Residential in Port Hedland. 

In this residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities. 
The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

You will be based at Port Hedland on a fly-in fly-out 5/2 4/3 roster.  Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.   The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include; a fully equipped gym, TV lounge and games rooms. Additionally you will have access to the state of the art aquatic and sporting facilities in the town of Port Hedland. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
