About the role

We are currently seeking a Engineering Technician Electrical (Electrician). The successful candidate will be highly motivated, enjoys working in an inclusive team environment within the Fixed Plant Maintenance team, reporting to the Finucane Island Shift Maintenance Supervisor B Shift. 
As an Electrical Engineering Technician - Fixed Plant Maintenance, you will be responsible for preventative maintenance servicing or repairs, conducting inspections and performing fault-finding on various heavy fixed plant equipment such as Car Dumpers, Stackers, Bucket Wheel Reclaimers, Shiploaders, Re-Screening Buildings and various conveying systems to BHP procedures and Australian Standards. 
Reporting to the B shift supervisor, your duties will include:
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Maintain a high standard of work ensuring quality in all tasks.
  • Work closely with all employees and stakeholders to analyse performance issues, develop, and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Maintain all aspects of equipment maintenance, including preventative, fault finding, repairs, and commissioning.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing maintenance opportunities for improvements.


In this residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia on a lifestyle roster (3Days2Nights5Off/2D2N5O/2D3N4O). Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities. 

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
  • Electrical WA ‘A’ grade license or ability to obtain one.
  • A strong commitment to continuous improvement. 
  • 2-5 years post trade experience in an automation, process control environment. 
  • Excellent electrical knowledge & AS3000 Standards.
  • HV Operator competency/appointment. 
  • Technical knowledge of PLCs (AB & GE), VVVFs (Siemens), networks, instrumentation, HV/LV motors and Citect systems (Highly regarded)
  • The ability to work methodically and remain calm and focused in a busy and dynamic work environment.
  • Working at Heights/ Confined Space/ MSIC.
  • Demonstrate Strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
