About the role

Reporting to the Supervisor - Maintenance, you will be working in Finucane Island near Port Hedland. This role will be responsible for executing a planned weekly maintenance schedule on fixed plant machines and other equipment. You will be actively involved in the planning and scoping of work to be executed in PM outages and making maintenance and operating decisions either as individuals or as a team to ensure the safety, reliability and efficiency of our assets.

Some of your duties will include:
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Undertaking preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with maintenance planning systems and recommending appropriate follow-up action;
  • Undertake and implement Improvements to work instructions and planned maintenance strategies; 
  • Working from hydraulic schematic drawings, prints, plans or manuals; 
  • Carrying out all activities within the whole-of-job scope, including pre-work, preparation of JHAs and/or DWPs, organising materials, execution, testing and completion of tasks.
  • Be self-directed, ensuring that operating and maintenance targets are achieved.
  • Capture and provide feedback to Supervisor on any identified non-conformance issues.
  • Monitor contracting jobs in progress and look for safety improvements in the way the job is being conducted.
  • Take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of fixed plant.

Location / Roster: 
In this residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia on a 8 days on, 8 days off, 7 days on, 7 days off roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess:
  • Mechanical trade certificate or engineering degree 
  • Maintenance experience in heavy fixed plant equipment, general fabrication and welding
  • Experience with troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems
