About the role

We are seeking an experienced Environment Specialist to work within our Health, Safety and Environment team in a fly in, fly out capacity at our Nickel West Leinster site, on a 12 month contract.

The role reports to the HSE Manager – Northern Operations. The roster is 5:2 4:3.

Within this role you will use coaching and influencing skills to support site leaders in effective environmental risk management. Your technical expertise combined with ability to capture and analyse data will inform best practice in risk management and identify opportunities for ongoing improvement. You will work closely with and foster positive relationships with a large number of stakeholders both internal and external to HSE to deliver objectives.


  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.

  • Partner with operational stakeholders to support them in effective environment risk management

  • Provision of environment related technical expertise

  • Acquisition and delivery of accurate and transparent environment data.

  • Participate in the execution and verification of our environmental management system

  • Support the delivery of Environment components of site and asset Plans.

  • Perform Field Leadership and contractor management activities.

  • Coordination of internal and external (regulator) audits and inspections, communication of findings and development of action plans with stakeholders.

About You

·        Tertiary qualification in an Environment related discipline

·        Sound knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to the control of environment related risks, legal compliance requirements and environmental management systems.

·        Ability to effectively engage and influence Operations leaders, to support them in environmental risk management

·        Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with others in both the same team and from other teams to deliver objectives

·        Coaching and mentoring skills

·        Demonstrated experience in executing technical environment related work activities.

·        Good computer-based skills with familiarity in various MS programs and HSE data management systems.

·        Strong planning, organisational and time management skills
