About the role

We are currently seeking an Environment Specialist to join our Perth team on a 12-month secondment to energise our future through innovation and excellence.   Reporting to the Manager Environment NiW, your primary responsibility will be to assist in identifying and obtaining all necessary environmental approvals to support achievement of BHP NiW business plan. You will work with engineers and consultants to ensure that relevant technical studies, surveys and supporting environmental approval documentation meet BHP Nickel West and government requirements. You will also support environmental analysis and improvement projects.   In this role you will:
  • Prepare and deliver environmental approval documentation for submission to government;
  • Maintain business-wide standards for environmental approvals documentation;
  • Collaborate effectively across the business in relation to environmental approvals;
  • Ensure that appropriate interaction occurs with government, community and other stakeholders to satisfy environmental approval processes;
  • Work with engineers, consultants and internal functions to ensure adherence to environmental approval schedules; and
  • Contribute to key environmental analysis and improvement projects across Minerals Australia
Location You will be based in Perth, in the Brookfield Place office.

About You

To be successful in the role, the following skills and attributes are required:
  • Extensive experience in environmental management, with significant experience in the mining and/or resource sector;
  • Managing environmental approvals for multiple complex resource development projects;
  • Solid knowledge of Western Australian and Commonwealth environmental legislation and approvals processes;
  • Experience in project and contractor management to achieve tight timeframes;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to achieve project outcomes; and 
  • Tertiary qualifications in an environment related discipline.
