About BHP

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential. With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities.  Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success. Come and be a part of this success.

About the role

As part of our vision to improve our business every day through safety improvements, innovation and people development, BHP is on a technology journey. This will radically transform our way of working, leading us to embrace change and develop organisational excellence.

The General Manager of Goonyella Riverside Mine site recently made the decision to implement autonomous haulage systems. As a result of this transformation, new roles to support autonomous and autonomy-aware vehicles and autonomous systems are being created on site.

The Field Officer AH Systems (AHS) is one of them and is part of the Production Team.

The Field Officer AH Systems (AHS) will be a key enabler of the autonomous systems. Your activities will include and are not limited to:
  • Survey, plan and validate the Autonomous Zone to ensure any infrastructure or hazards have been protected and that virtual obstacles are set up around them within the Autonomous Haulage System;
  • Monitor the physical mine and Autonomous Zone model to ensure the virtual mine model aligns for accuracy;
  • Utilising data and knowledge of the Autonomous Haulage System to manage the Dynamic dumping plans to ensure the Autonomous Haul Trucks (AHTs) tip in an optimised way;
  • Being the first responder to autonomy systems stoppage events and diagnosing the root cause of the stoppage through analysis of technology systems and inspections; and
  • Monitoring weather and road conditions, and put in place systems controls to ensure the AHTs can operate safely and productively.
Although you will spend the majority of your shift in the field, you will be in a constant contact with our site-based Autonomous Haulage Systems Mine Controllers who will be based on site in an automation control centre. You will also have regular interactions with the operators and other team members entering the Autonomous Zones. Therefore this role has a great variety of tasks, and stakeholders and is an excellent development opportunity for anyone who wants to embark on a new journey.

The Field Officer AH Systems (AHS) role will be located on site and will require you to work day and night shifts on a continuous roster.
