At the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter, the Flash Furnace Integrity Engineer role is to provide technical support for Flash Furnace operations with respect to the integrity of the asset.  
Working closely with the Production and Maintenance teams they are responsible for critical process variable monitoring and measurement, managing the Flash Furnace Integrity program as well as projects designed at improving asset life, process stability and introducing new technology.  Furthermore, they are responsible for managing furnace shutdowns from a process / integrity perspective and liaising with the maintenance team for work prioritisation.
Reporting to the Process Control and Improvement Superintendent, you will have the opportunity to
  • Provide technical support to the Flash Furnace Production & Maintenance Teams
  • Manage the Flash Furnace Integrity Program
  • Engage in process troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Monitor critical process safety variables and participate in process safety improvement
  • Manage furnace and refractory monitoring to assist in the extension of asset life
  • Provide run-down and commissioning technical support
  • Complete process investigations and develop clear and precise actions

About You

  •  Chemical/Process Engineering or Metallurgy qualification
  • Experience related to smelting operations, with a focus on Flash Furnace smelting will be beneficial but not essential
  • Have a sound understanding of electrical instrumentation
  • Demonstrated sound analytical and problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with risk management processes and tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate and interact with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to work within a flexible team environment
