About the role

This role provides a unique opportunity for a Geologist wishing to further their career and leadership skills.   Reporting into the Superintendent Mining Geology you’ll be providing support services to many of our internal stakeholders on the project including operations.   This is a busy role where you’ll coordinate the team’s daily activities and also mentor and assist the junior Geologists in your team.   You’ll also be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the collection, analysis and interpretation of geological data,
  • Directing the delivery of best practice grade control and mining geology core routines, and
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate flow of information from the Geoscience and Exploration Mining Geology function into all customer groups including Production Scheduling, Mine Planning and OHP.
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations,
  • Promote a culture of zero harm through quality field leadership activities incorporating Critical Control Observations, Planned Task Observations, Take Time Talks, Take 5’s and JHA’s,
  • You will play a front line leadership role by coaching peers and subordinates in all areas of Field Leadership, event investigation and management through 1SAP Fiori,
  • Coaching and mentoring Mine Geologists in the delivery of best practice grade control activities,
  • Facilitating and coordinating execution of mining geology core routines,
  • Audit all outputs from Mine Geologists and action corrective measures to ensure that the highest technical standards are maintained,
  • Communicate any geological risks that may affect the mine plan or models relevant to stakeholders and safe execution of the mine plan,
  • Support the implementation of RC and STM grade control drilling programs and other technology enhancement projects,
  • Support the development and delivery of continuous improvement (CI) initiatives that drive value for the Mining Geology, Geoscience and Exploration function and the asset in terms of recurring savings, incremental throughput, safety and culture

About You

  • You’ll be a tertiary geology graduate with at least 10 years of experience that is looking for an opportunity to develop your leadership skills.
  • A solid understanding of site requirements and at least 3-5 years in a site based role will set you up for success in this role
  • A passion for developing and mentoring people is required and you’ll be able to demonstrate previous success
  • You’ll possess an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development




Location
Yandi – FIFO – Spinifex Village
You will be based at our 'Yandi' mine on a fly-in fly-out 5/2/4/3 roster.  Yandi is located approximately 170kms North of Newman West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, squash, tennis and basketball courts, golf driving range, mini golf, netted cricket pitch, beach volleyball court and recreation room. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, internet, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
