Our team requires the services of experienced Heavy Duty Diesel Fitters with Field Equipment exposure to join us at our Newman Operations Mount Whaleback mine site living residentially and enjoying our lifestyle roster.
We are offering very suitable full time roles in our Excavator and Drill Maintenance team, our new team is seeking those HD fitters that wish to secure full time roles conducting maintenance on some of the largest mobile equipment within the mining environment. About the role

Reporting to the Supervisors within the Field Maintenance team your duties will include:
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, our Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations;
  • Overriding commitment to the BHP Charter, health, safety, environment and sustainable development 
  • The role will have opportunities for the right person to develop themselves in all areas including that of leadership, this opportunity will enable you to plan your future securely.
  • Working within FEM, you will be responsible for the preventative and breakdown maintenance of all field mining equipment. Team members are expected to demonstrate focus on safety, achievement and team engagement in all aspects of their work. 
  • Ensuring dispatch and KPI reporting systems are kept up to date and reflect actual equipment status for down time and data is analysed to identify trends and target improvement opportunities;
  • Ensuring adequate scoping of corrective work to facilitate the planning process
  • Complete Field Leadership activities as per KPI’s; and
  • Maintain a valid Pit Permit

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following: 
  • Trade Qualified Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic;
  • Previous history working on field mining equipment including fleets of Liebherr R996, 9400 and PV271 drills utilised in our large scale open pit mining operation;
  • Ability to suitably work within planned or breakdown type maintenance environments;
  • Motivated individual who can work with minimal supervision and engage in team operations;
  • Experience in mining environments with Electronic diagnostic tool exposure highly regarded;
  • Experience in stepping up to lead and supporting teams will be highly regarded but not essential;
  • Computer literacy and/or experience in 1SAP (advantageous but not essential);
  • C Class manual driver’s license mandatory
  • HR Class manual driver’s license with Overhead Crane, Dogging/Rigging, EWP and Forklift License; (desirable but not essential)


In this residential role you will be based in Newman, Western Australia on a lifestyle roster pattern (4 days 5 off, 5 nights 4 off, 5 days 5 off, 4 nights 5 off, 5 days 4 off, 5 nights 5 off).  You will be working at the closely located ‘Mount Whaleback’ mine site, which at more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide is the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world. 

The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities. As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
