About the role


BHP Billiton’s Integrated Remote Operations Centre is a well-established state-of-the-art control operations facility encompassing our coal asset operations located across Central Queensland and New South Wales.  This world-class control center makes a significant contribution to ensuring our Coal operations continue to improve performance in a sustainable way by coordinating the near-term scheduling, planning and controlling of our Coal Operations from a central location.

Located in the BHP Queen Street Brisbane building, the IROC is a state-of-the-art control room, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with maximum safety and comfort for IROC employees in mind. Reporting to the Superintendent Fixed Plant Control, you will be supporting a large team of controllers to identify, standardize and improve processing performance across the Coal Business including nine processing plants and the Hay Point Coal Terminal.  Your strong processing knowledge will enable you to influence best practice while implementing improvement initiatives that deliver on-going business value.

In this role, you will:

  • Positively shape the IROC culture in alignment with the BHP Billiton Charter Values;
  • Conduct investigations in processing deviations and take an engineering approach to rectify root causes;
  • Identify, prioritize and support frontline continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Motivate, engage and coach the team towards achieving processing best practice;
  • Establish strong relationships with site operations to enable performance and improvement;
  • Support disciplined implementation of the IROC Control operational rhythms and routines; 
  • Establish positive working relationships with support functions.

About You

If you are an organized, outcome focused and energetic person who is passionate about the improving processing performance and have the ability to build great relationships, then you will be an ideal candidate to be part of our team.

Ideally you will also possess some of the following:

  • Tertiary qualification within fields such as Engineering Science, Metallurgical, Chemical or Mineral Processing Engineering;
  • Significant operational processing experience across several sites and a demonstrated ability to solve complex challenges across the supply chain;
  • Relationship management capability inclusive of successfully influencing and leading successful change in a challenging environment;
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen as well as managing technical risk to implement improvement initiatives;Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and proficiency in process modelling tools.

This is a key role for a team member who is regarded for their technical knowledge and pro-active approach.  Committed to developing a culture driven by safety, quality and continuous improvement, your highly developed teamwork and interpersonal skills, combined with strong technical skills and an eye for continuous improvement opportunities will be central to success in the role.  This role will initially be offered as 12 Month Fixed Term Contract to cover Parental Leave, however there may be an opportunity to extend.
