Our Operations

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Reliability, you will be involved in supporting the site maintenance function to achieve maintenance and process safety excellence. We are seeking an Engineer with a driving commitment to safe work practices with a proactive approach to improving equipment safety reliability used for the processing of ore into Copper, Uranium, Silver and Gold.

This role is focused on improving the reliability of critical instrumentation and instrumented protective functions across Olympic Dam Surface Operations. Successfully delivery of this role includes development and implementation of preventative maintenance and testing strategies, in-field troubleshooting support, and identification of hardware improvement opportunities.

Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, and can be offered on a 5/2 residential, or 5/2,4/3 FIFO from Adelaide roster arrangement.

In this role you will:
  • Engage in daily safety leadership activities and discussions to promote achievement of Development and implementation of function test strategies for instrumented protective functions (IPF) inclusive of calibration to ensure a risk reduction factor (RRF) of 10 is maintained
  • Assist Maintenance and Production teams with troubleshooting of instrumentation issues
  • Review of current reliability of instrumentation and where required determine a remediation strategy
  • Review preventative maintenance strategies for critical instrumentation
  • Assist in the identification and classification of critical instrumentation in the relevant systems
  • Review bad actor instrumentation to identify improvement opportunities
  • Participate in investigations and root cause analyses in significant events/failures related to instrumentation
  • Participate in the Risk and Control Management process for Surface Operations

About You

  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
  • Degree qualified in Engineering (Preferred), or a closely related discipline with expertise in Instrumentation
  • Experience in selection, installation, maintenance and calibration of instrumentation and function testing of instrumented protective functions. Ability to understand PLC logic and functional safety experience is preferred. 
  • A focus on risk based and fit for purpose solutions and improvements is expected Exposure to RCA and defect elimination techniques will be considered advantageous, but not essential
  • Exposure to complex processing plants and facilities
  • Open to new challenges and experiences, combined with proactive and intuitive problem solving skills
  • Highly engaged, collaborative and committed to building mutually beneficial relationships across functional teams
