About the role

Due to ongoing expansion the Maritime Process & Operations Team is looking for an experienced Laytime/Marine Accountant professional who will become part of the company's dry cargo team which operates up to Cape size vessels. You will be working closely with the Company's Post-Fixture department to provide both Charterer's, as well as Vessel final reconciliations, on a timely basis.


The overall responsibility of the Laytime Specialist is to review each fixture's terms with respect to Demurrage, Detention and Dispatch Clauses and to calculate amounts due to each party.  You will work closely with the commercial department, as well as with the Operations department to reconcile voyage accounts. You will also need to communicate with port agents and vessel to obtain related Statements of Facts in order to prepare your statements. You will need to have a good understanding of charterparties in order to take responsibility for all commercial operational matters. You must be able to handle complex laytime, multiple discharge port and charterparties terms and conditions. Your dispute management needs to be best in class.


On a daily basis you will need to communicate with the Vessel's operators based in Manila with recommended arrival times with respect to the prevailing notice of readiness and working clauses. Working with the Chartering team to resolve overdue disputes across the ship owner to drive a reduction of balance of freight.


You will need to maintain detailed records of NOR, working times, tracking of any off-hire periods and  providing the Commercial department with up to the moment analysis of amounts due or saved, for each port you will provide professional and accurate lay time statements at the conclusion of each charter, communicating effectively to reach final balance of freight agreement promptly.


Using your strong relationships you will need to work comfortably across all level of the organisation as well as communicating effectively and respectfully both internally and externally.


To be suitable for this opportunity, you must have at least five years of vessels operations/freight execution/laytime experience in the dry-bulk /wet sector. You must exhibit high attention to detail, extremely organized and work within tight deadlines. You will need to exhibit agility and have a drive for success personally and professionally as there will be opportunities to take on new/additional out of scope work involving other voyage operational matters as we transform our business through technology and process improvements.


Accountabilities
  • Accountable for assuring zero compliance, governance or safety incident across the all voyages operated in Maritime Process & Operations.
  • Demonstrates in depth understanding of safety and environmental considerations for ocean freight transport and acts as a subject matter expert for his peers in the Iron Ore, Coal, Copper and Petroleum scheduling teams.
  • Demonstrates passion for delivering superior results; strives to continuously improve processes, systems or services.
  • Good understanding of following Maritime processes:
    • Contract creation, reading of contracts and understanding of relevant clauses.
    • Voyage Economics for time charters, voyage charters
    • Lay time calculation, bulk and oil and gas trade and export Documentation
    •   LOI, B/L and understanding of trade finance flows and requirements
    • Financial reconciliation of voyages
    • Lay times, understanding CP contracts and negotiating
    • Differentials Calculations
    • Processing efficiency, ensure completeness and accuracy.
    • Identify opportunities to deliver GM through negotiations                                     
    • Manage the month end process and get sign off from relevant management representative
    • Dispute resolution management, tracking and escalation



Stakeholders:
  • Engagement with other specialists/principles globally to understand the overall progress of voyage management for Maritime as a whole.
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer service relationships with stakeholders in Minerals and Petroleum, Vessel Owners and Freight teams regarding voyage progress, vessel movement, load and discharge status, cargo documents and optimization of voyage economics. ·
  • Identifies and cultivates internal and external alliances that lead to successful outcomes for the organization and its customers and suppliers; positions the BHP for future success by identifying new opportunities through relationships.
  • Act as a SME for all operational issues with key stakeholders.

Process
  • Leverage technology to improve own and team’s productivity as well as quality of service. Formulates innovative ideas and approaches to processes, systems or services; seeks and implements opportunities to improve, streamline or re-invent work processes; tries different and creative ways to deal with issues and opportunities.
  • Partakes in departmental projects to achieve the desired objectives and delivering on the overall strategy
  • Supports when needed all administrative tasks including but not limited to documentation, ETA updates, lay time calculations, invoices and payments for all Voyage and Time Charter operations. Acting as a BCP for operations.
