About the role

As a Lead, you will be accountable for leading the GAS Finance BMA team, supporting the BMA joint venture operations and delivering a variety of process, accounting and reporting requirements to both internal group and external joint venture stakeholders. The role will require you to manage the General Ledger Accounting, Period End Close, Joint Venture and Group Reporting activities in relation to the BMA joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi.

About the role:
  • Direct and coach team members to ensure joint venture and group performance targets are achieved, personal and technical skills continue to develop
  • Lead the team through active engagement, setting clear expectations, developing capabilities and competencies, evaluating and managing performance
  • Support and build relationships with Coal accounting and reporting, BMA finance business partners and operations, Mitsubishi joint venture partners
  • Ensure accurate accounting and processing of transactions in order to facilitate informed business decisions and meet compliance requirements
  • Manage the period end close process to ensure accurate results and ledgers closed on time for joint venture and group reporting deliverables
  • Perform trial balance, system validation and general ledger reconciliation reviews to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial results reported
  • Coordination and review of monthly joint venture and group reporting deliverables, quarterly joint venture reporting and annual statutory reporting
  • Ensure the completion of half yearly briefing papers with variance analysis commentary for external reporting and annual stewardship reviews
  • Manage SOX / JSOX compliance by ensuring adequate internal controls are in place and working effectively to address the associated risks
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors for review of joint venture and group results, testing of controls, providing information and addressing queries
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure global process standardisation, improvement, simplification and productivity measures
  • Support the open communication, collaboration, sharing of ideas and information within the GAS Finance, accounting and reporting teams

About You

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree qualification in accounting or finance
  • Professional qualification (CPA/ACCA/CIMA) completion or pursuing will be added advantage
Experience & Technical Competencies
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience with a large corporate or professional environment
  • Experience with shared service functions, mining or oil and gas industries and leading teams
  • Demonstrated strong technical accounting knowledge, analytical and investigative skills
  • Strong business awareness, commercial mindset and risk awareness skills
  • Experience with joint venture accounting, management and statutory reporting
  • Attention to detail, ability to manage deadlines, identify and resolve problems
  • Capability to work collaboratively with teams and stakeholders to deliver value and results
  • Good knowledge and experience of finance modules in SAP and related systems
Languages:
  • Fluent English, both verbal and written
  • Good communication skills and strong stakeholder engagement
