About the role

The Lead Data Modeler is critical in ensuring that data provided to the customers and used by all teams is continually improved and is fit for purpose.  Allowing stakeholders to enable data driven decision making across the organization.
The Lead Data Modelers primary responsibility is setting the Data Modeling strategy, Data Modeling process, Data Modeling standards and associated technologies to manage data models.  They will be accountable for advising on designing and modeling data.  Ensure alignment by the broader BHP organisation and teams are meet.  Including keeping alignment with our Data Strategy.
  • Work with the customer requirements in order to produce and maintain artefacts such as Conceptual Data Models (CDM) and Logical Data Models (LDM), Business Glossary, Data Dictionary, Data model release documentation, and data mappings.
  • Represent business concepts, their definitions, properties, and relationships using appropriate models and diagrams for consumption.
  • Explain and champion data model changes and data projects for change with business stakeholders.
  • Ensure best practice naming conventions are applied to conceptual and logical data models.
  • Ensure all metadata for models are captured correctly, including data definitions, business rules, data quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders within the organisation to develop agreed data models of common concern.
  • Align domain models with enterprise data model, review and govern data models produced by initiatives.
  • Coordinate and conduct technical peer reviews with subject matter experts and stakeholders to validate requirements and data models.
  • Produce models to support the mapping of data in legacy data formats and data stores to modern formats and enterprise data stores.
  • Perform other Data related activities as allocated, ensuring quality of outputs in terms of time, cost and business benefit.
  • Support tasks/projects as directed by the Data Management Manager.
  • Ensure relational and dimensional model alignment. Understanding IDEF1X, Object Role Modeling, UML, or industry standard data modeling language.
  • Understanding of Kimball, Imon and Data Vault modeling
  • Work with various on premise and cloud based technologies.

About You

.We are looking for people who are passionate about Data with hands on experience in data modeling and data architecture.  You enjoy building up Data Modeling capability from the ground up.  Ideally, you will have the following experience:
  • Data modeling experience working on large or complex business transformation, business improvement, data management or system implementation (ERP, EAM) projects.
  • Working knowledge of the data framework like CMMI, DCAM and DMBoK.
  • Applies data analysis, design, modeling, and quality assurance techniques, to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions).
  • Developed and publish Conceptual Models, Logical Models, and Physical Models. 
  • Create Data Modeling process and standards
  • Ability to condense and encapsulate the characteristics of data, making it easier to surface opportunities, identify risks, analyse trends, to drive effective decision-making.
  • Ability to present findings and data insights in creative ways to facilitate the understanding of data across a range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provides advice and guidance to database designers and others using the data structures and associated components.
  • Takes responsibility for understanding client requirements, collecting data, delivering analysis and problem resolution. Identifies, evaluates and recommends options, implementing if required.
  • Collaborates with, and facilitates stakeholder groups, as part of formal or informal consultancy.
  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, information and systems management, or a business discipline is highly desirable.
  • Used industry standard Data Modeling tools in the past.
