About the role

The Lead - Operational Readiness (OR) Coal is located in the BHP Minerals Australia Coal business unit and forms an integral part of the Technical Function of Minerals Australia Projects (MAP).

This role will see you reporting to the Regional Commissioning Manager – Coal and based out of the Brisbane office, the key focus of the role is to plan and deliver OR services, through each phase of Coal Asset Projects, from commencement of project Development, through Delivery, to Handover to Operations and Close Out. 
As the OR Lead, you will collaborate with the project teams, Technical Functions and BHP Operations to add value into Engineering Reviews and Risk Assessments, and complete OR Strategy methodologies early in the project Lifecycle. As the project progresses, you will plan and facilitate OR Planning workshops with each site, and work with the OR team and internal functions to self-perform the OR Execution. The OR Lead will also engage contractors throughout the Execution process. 

Key responsibilities will include: 
  • Strategy development, through to detailed Planning, into Execution and Handover;
  • Engage stakeholders and manage relationships throughout the OR process;
  • Provide regular reporting and presentation material to line and project leaders for each project; and
  • Validate OR Contractor Plans to successfully complete deliverables and manage OR Contractors through OR scope of works, ensuring quality and timeliness of deliverable completion.

About You

The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification in engineering or trade qualification, with relevant experience in a Project Management or site operations environment, preferably developing teams. 

The nature of the role requires you to have strong stakeholder engagement skills, be a forward thinker and be able to manage multiple projects. A background in coaching and building strong networks with key stakeholders, to effectively communicate and interact professionally with all levels of Operations will be critical to the success of this position.
