About the role

Lead the planning and execution of site closure and non-routine periodic maintenance projects.   Ensure closure design, execution and project close-out is appropriate to the risk and liabilities for each site and consistent with the closure plan and BHP Billiton’s values.  Development role for the potential succession to site manager role.

  • Manages closure project engineering of varying complexity at a variety of sites across multiple jurisdictions from selection through execution and handover.  Must be able to lead multiple small projects simultaneously.
  • Engages multiple stakeholders in planning and execution of projects.
  • Ensure project execution is planned in accordance with the requirements set out in the project objectives and aligns needs of site managers and closure plans.
  • Contributes to all activities for budgeting, closure scope and plans including opportunity assessment, life of asset, annual, 2 year and 5 year budgets. 
  • Leads project engineering support and expertise to support the Project team. 
  • Develop project engineering management plans and Project Execution Plans.  Develop project commissioning and close-out reports to assist the sites with regulatory reporting requirements and operating document revision.
  • Reviews engineering and design to ensure it meet the relevant standards and site operational requirements. 
  • Align to current industry best practice in closure design.

About You

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience in site or operations management.
  • Knowledge, background and familiarity of various sites. 
  • Experience in mining or post-mining care and maintenance, demolition, reclamation and heavy civil earthworks. 
  • Prior experience dealing with stakeholders and organizations across multiple jurisdictions. 
  • Expertise in managing engineering projects through the lifecycle of a mine including project development, operation, and closed assets.
