BHP is committed to investing in our operations, our people and communities to ensure we have the right technology, skills, and culture we need to succeed and excel in the future.  Following the successful roll-out of our first fully autonomous haul truck fleet at Jimblebar in late 2017, the General Manager of Goonyella Riverside Mine site recently made the decision to implement autonomous haulage.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Superintendent Technology Delivery East, this role is responsible for managing the execution of the Technology work stream for the project. The technology work stream comprise an extensive scope for the design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of a broad range of technologies as summarised below:
  • site data centres, fibre optic cabling, hosting environment, wired network, wireless network and end user computing
  • GPS and GNSS solutions, 2 Way Radio, access control systems
  • Komatsu Frontrunner and Dispatch autonomous haulage platform, application integration and reporting)
In this role your main responsibilities will be but not restricted to:
  • Development of the project execution plan in alignment with AHA project delivery model;
  • Management of the delivery of the full scope of the Technology work stream
  • Management and coaching of a team of Subject Matter Expert, vendors and Original Equipment Manufacturer in delivering the defined scope of work to BHP standards and specifications;
  • Establishment and management of relationships with senior stakeholders within and external to the program as required;
  • Review, endorsement, and approval of key design reviews for value optimisation, ensuring safety in design, operability and maintainability.
Using your well-developed communication and engagement skills and building good and effective relationships with business stakeholders and third party vendors will be the key to success in this role. This role will give you the opportunity to work across a wide range of technologies. Your ability to ask key questions and empower SME’s will ensure the successful roll out of this large program of work You will be part of a wider autonomous haulage delivery team for Goonyella Riverside that will deliver in pit and civil infrastructure; complete training programs; deliver site safety and health management system updates; and implement effective organizational change for  the autonomous haulage deployment on site. This team will have site based team as well as a Brisbane based team.

About You

We are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals who have demonstrated experience in successful delivery for previous large scale and complex technology projects in mining or a similar industry. You have a tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related discipline and ideally have ITIL Certification.
Your excellent oral and written communication skills will enable you to articulate the complexity of the project to senior stakeholders. You are highly logical, have good analytical and problem solving skills and can build strong relationship at all levels.
You are a team player, promote collaboration and encourage team of experts to come together to design and implement integrated solutions. You understand the business context and have safety, simplicity and maintainability at the forefront of your mind.
