About the role

We seek a well-rounded and dynamic individual to join our GAS Supply team as a Lead Supply Category Management. Reporting to the Manager Supply Category Management, you will be responsible to coordinate the activities of a team and provide leadership in performing GAS Supply mandated activities, ensuring effective resource utilization and operational needs are met in a timely and effective manner, in accordance with defined policies and procedures. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership qualities to lead the team in achieving performance targets, as well as champion ongoing process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates and overriding commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Community
  • Ensure alignment with and compliance to internal controls including Group Level Documents, BHP Charter and Code of Business, agreements, systems, standards and procedures
  • Leads, coaches and mentors team members to ensure delivery against performance targets and developing technical competencies and sustain culture of team members.
  • Drive world class contract management performance through:
    1. Ensuring that market engagement is planned and executed to meet schedule, quality and cost objectives
    2. Ensuring the team has sufficient capacity and capability to provide end-to-end contract management support
    3. Providing leadership that will ensure consistency& high performance against individual asset  and Supply KPIs
    4. Managing  total cost of ownership awareness in category management activities
    5. Managing contractor and contract performance monitoring and reporting to support all categories (KPI reporting, spend analytics, contract variations incl. claims management, and off-contract spend)
    6. Driving and coaches suppliers, Contract Owners and Contract Owner Representatives to optimise supplier performance within the contract framework
    7. Leading the pursuit of operational and commercial excellence through continuous improvement with support from the improvement team
  • As required, supports direct tendering, negotiation & implementation of contracts across BHP assets to reduce total cost to the business
  • Monitors expectations, understanding and applications of global standard processes within the team to support compliance with local, internal and external audit requirements
  • Supports the Manager Supply Category Management with performance and insights on the management of GAS Supply risk, service delivery, issues and the relevant mitigating actions
  • Manage multiple stakeholder relationship both internally and externally to ensure operational requirements are met in line with schedules. Where needed, supports the Manager Supply Category Management in business engagement activities. This includes compliance with any local, internal and external audit requirements
  • Identifies, builds and develops GAS Supply function talent and capability, including a pipeline of talent for key positions
  • Provide a point of escalation and support on request from Business Partner (s) /Principal Purchasing Partner (s)
  • Work collaboratively with regional counterparts to share replicable current state opportunities across categories and assets to drive enterprise level opportunity

About You

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or  and / or similar qualification in a commercial and/or technical discipline
  • Good to have  Charted Institute of Purchasing Supply (CIPS)
Experience & Technical Competencies
  • 6 – 8 years’ experience in procurement
  • Willing to working night shift
  • At least 3 – 5 years of managerial experience, leading sub teams and/or projects
  • Pragmatic commercial outlook and exemplary judgement (balances business value vs. risk) to deliver best outcome for BHP
  • Demonstrated experience with contract law or contract management.
  • Collaborative mindset and advanced interpersonal skills.
  • Highly capable in building constructive long term relationships.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in complex and ambiguous environments
  • Ability to think laterally to independently resolve issues and influence change.
  • Autonomous, detail oriented, organised, and objective.
  • Advanced communication skills enabling the influencing of a diverse stakeholder group (frontline to executive).
  • Ability to support Supply Leaders to deliver upon department KPIs.
  • Problem Solve within highly complex and ambiguous situations
  • Understand risks and appropriate control options
  • Ability to analyse cost vs risk trade-offs
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and global team
  • Results orientated
 Languages: 
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, both verbal and written
