About the role

We seek a well-rounded and dynamic individual to join our Commercial – Procurement Operation team as a Lead. Reporting to the Manager Procurement Master Data, you will be responsible to coordinate the activities of a team and provide leadership in performing Commercial mandated activities, ensuring effective resource utilization and operational needs are met in a timely and effective manner, in accordance with defined policies and procedures. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership qualities to lead the team in achieving performance targets, as well as champion ongoing process improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrates and overriding commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Community
  • Ensure alignment with and compliance to internal controls including Group Level Documents, BHP Charter and Code of Business, agreements, systems, standards and procedures
  • Leads, coaches and mentors team members to ensure delivery against performance targets and developing technical competencies of team members.

  • Drive world class due diligence performance through:

    • Ensuring that vendor engagement is planned and executed to meet schedule, quality and process objectives
    • Ensuring the team has sufficient capacity and capability to provide end-to-end due diligence support
    • Providing leadership that will ensure consistency & high performance against individual asset and Supply KPIs
    • Managing the end to end process in due diligence activities
    • Leading the pursuit of operational and commercial excellence through continuous improvement with support from the improvement team
      • Lead and manage vendors on boarding to GCMS by engaging, coordinating and providng support to business and suppliers
        • Driving best practices and standardization by ensuring alignment with and compliance to internal controls including Group Level Documents, SOX controls, Master Data Design Standards (MDDS) and legal requirements relevant to Vendor Master data as well as alignment with Due Diligence instruction in CAW
        • Monitors expectations, understanding and applications of global standard processes within the team to support compliance with local, internal and external audit requirements
        • Supports the Manager Procurement Operations with performance and insights on the management of Commercial risk, service delivery, issues and the relevant mitigating actions
        • Manage multiple stakeholder relationship both internally and externally to ensure operational requirements are met in line with schedules. Where needed, supports the Manager Master Data in business engagement activities. This includes compliance with any local, internal and external audit requirements
        • Identifies, builds and develops Commercial function talent and capability, including a pipeline of talent for key positions
        • Provide a point of escalation and support on request from Business Partner (s) /Principal Purchasing Partner (s)
        • Work collaboratively with regional counterparts to share replicable current state opportunities across categories and assets to drive enterprise level opportunity
        • Work collaboratively with Vendors, Contract Management, Purchasing, Accounts Payables, Finance, Ethics & Compliance, Legal to drive performance and improvement opportunities
        • Leads, drive and manages data cleansing for MDC (Master Data Compliance) purpose to ensure that data integrity in the system is maintained
        • Driving and coaches suppliers, Contract Owners and Contract Owner Representatives to optimise supplier performance within the contract framework  
          Managing due diligence performance monitoring and reporting to support all categories (KPI reporting, spend analytics, tendering for contracts and purchasing managemen


        About You

        • 6 – 8 years’ experience in Due Diligence  
        • At least 3 – 4 years of managerial experience, leading sub teams and/or projects
        • Pragmatic commercial outlook and exemplary judgement (balances business value vs. risk) to deliver best outcome for BHP
        • Demonstrated experience with contract law or contract management.
        • Collaborative mindset and advanced interpersonal skills.
        • Highly capable in building constructive long term relationships.
        • Proven ability to operate effectively in complex and ambiguous environments
        • Ability to think laterally to independently resolve issues and influence change.
        • Autonomous, detail oriented, organised, and objective.
        • Demonstrate a strong understanding of internal audit controls and SOX controls
        • Advanced communication skills enabling the influencing of a diverse stakeholder group (frontline to executive).
        • Ability to support Supply Leaders to deliver upon department KPIs.
        • Problem Solve within highly complex and ambiguous situations
        • Understand risks and appropriate control options
        • Ability to analyse cost vs risk trade-offs
        • Ability to work in a multicultural and global team
        • Results orientated
