About BHP

We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people looking to start their career in mining maintenance to Think Big with BHP.

Indigenous Peoples are critical partners and stakeholders in many of BHP operations both within Australia and around the world. Many of our operations are located on or near lands traditionally owned by or under the customary use of Indigenous Peoples and the long-term nature of our operations allows us to establish long lasting relationships with these Indigenous communities.

Operations Services (OS) is a Production and Maintenance workforce offering permanent roles within BHP – focusing on our people, how we connect and achieve high performance.

We are investing in our team to take your skills and career to places you never thought possible.

This is an exciting time for BHP. Are you ready to make your place?

About the role

Operations Services is excited to announce that we have created new entry level opportunities to develop a maintenance career with BHP, helping you kick-start your maintenance career. You will be paid to study whilst working on industry leading equipment and you will have a permanent position and a continual focus on personal and career development.

Through our facility-based program, we are offering two different pathways:

 ·       A Traineeship which is a 12 month training commitment at our facility, equipping you with certified qualifications and making you work-ready for your first day on site as a Maintenance Associate.

OR
 ·       An Apprenticeship which is a training commitment of 2-2 ½ years fully immersed at our training facilities. On successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be a trade qualified Heavy Diesel Fitter or Mechanical Fitter.

Initial training will be undertaken fulltime at our training hub in Mackay on a roster of 4 day shifts, 4 afternoon/evening shifts, 4 days off.

These will be town-based training locations, therefore accommodation or daily transport to training will not be provided. Upon successful completion of a training program, you will commence site-based employment with access to accommodation facilities if you do not reside locally.

About You

We are looking for passionate people from all backgrounds. You don’t need prior on-the-job experience, just a true interest in working with your hands – we can teach you the rest!
Your ideas, suggestions and team-work attitude will be welcomed. We will work together to achieve your personal and professional goals.

Ideally, you will have:
  •                  A high commitment to safety is a must
  •                  An interest in problem solving, fixing things and working with your hands
  •                  A demonstrated interest in Heavy Diesel Fitting or Mechanical/Plant Fitting
  •                  A strong desire to learn and develop a range of new skills
  •                  Motivation to achieve personal work goals and objectives
  •                  A teamwork mentality
  •                  Experience working on machinery/vehicles through an interest or hobby is highly regarded, but not
                     essential
