About the role

We are seeking a diverse and talented individual to take on the role of Breakdown Controller Technician Mechanical – Maintenance 1 (M1) at our Yandi Mine.  This is an office based role liaising with the maintenance supervisor, production supervisor, operators and mine control .You will be involved in responding to maintenance calls from operators, analysing asset health data and making quick decisions to respond to unplanned machine downtime of all Heavy Mobile Equipment on site.  This role is on an 8/6, 7/7 (dayshift, nightshift) roster recognising the high pressure demands of the role.

  • Respond to operator calls on unplanned machine downtime
  • Use of computerised maintenance systems (1SAP)
  • Prioritise work to meet shift objectives
  • Liaise with other Departments to coordinate activities
  • Participation in safety meetings and site safety programmes
  • Follow and ensure compliance with Maintenance Work Management Processes
  • Complete and validate Shift Reports and document all issues requiring follow up
  • Commissioning, fault finding and repair
  • Carrying out checks on equipment as required
  • Accurate completion of documentation including work order close out comments, drawings and technical reports as necessary
  • Facilitating shift changeovers
  • Attend Maintenance / Planning meetings as required

About You

As the successful candidate you will ideally possess the following experience and skills:
  • Proficient computer skills and 1SAP knowledge
  • Mechanical maintenance knowledge / experience required. Mechanical trade certificate - desirable. 
  • Exposure to Cat – 789C, 793D and 793F and Loaders Cat 994F and Komatsu WA1200; as well as excavators Liebherr 9400 and 996, Hitachi 1200 and 2500 
  • Strong practical experience in a relevant trade role within heavy industry
  • A Minimum of C class manual driver’s license is a requirement for this role

Your technical strengths will be complemented by excellent engagement and communication skills, as well as decision making in pressure situations. Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well with people, communicating confidently and building strong working relationships with key stakeholders.


You will be based at our 'Yandi' mine on a fly-in fly-out roster, of 8 days on, 6 days off, 7 nights on, 7 nights off.  Yandi is located approximately 170kms North of Newman West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, squash, tennis and basketball courts, golf driving range, mini golf, netted cricket pitch, beach volleyball court and recreation room. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, internet, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
