About BHP

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential.

With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities.  Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.

Come and be a part of this success.

Newman Operations

The 7,000 strong population of Newman enjoys well-established town facilities including a newly revitalised town centre and sporting facilities.  As a gateway to the Karijini national park, you will be in close proximity to spectacular gorges, water courses and stunningly unique landscapes. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

You’ll be working at the closely located ‘Mount Whaleback’ mine site. Established in 1968, it is the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world.

About the role

Our Infrastructure Maintenance team is looking for several Specialists to coordinate and support the management, scheduling and delivery of planned maintenance work – non process infrastructure assets.

You’ll be playing an important role to ensure safe, best class in maintenance and delivery of services across our site infrastructure. This could include, but not be limited to; buildings, HV electrical, fire systems, plumbing, sewerage, mobile cranes, civil works and laboratory equipment.

We’ll also be asking you to provide hands on support to the Maintenance Execution leadership team, particularly with day to day administration, reviewing scopes of work and maintenance planning. You’ll be trusted to maintain positive working relationships with our vendors, contractors and key stakeholders on site.

Spending the majority of your time out in the field, you’ll be liaising with Site Supervisors to ascertain labour and equipment requirements. It’s a fast-paced and constantly evolving role, which will see you managing inventory, sourcing parts, preparing monthly accruals and partnering with our Maintenance Centre of Excellence.

This role is based residentially in Newman working 12 hour day shifts, on an even time roster – 4 days on, 5 days off and 5 days on, 4 days off, 5 days on, 5 days off.

About You

If you have a background in planning or maintenance coordination and enjoy working in a fast-paced setting – this could very well be the next opportunity that you’ve been waiting for.

The sheer size and scale of our mining operations and assets presents many unique challenges, and endless opportunities to further develop your skills and industry knowledge. This role will certainly have you regularly thinking on your feet to address issues such as work backlogs and expediting urgent requests.

A stickler for detail, you appreciate the importance of data integrity, and keeping information up to date. You’re a great communicator, who can easily interact with and positively influence those around you.

We’re looking for someone who has previously managed vendor relationships, enjoys work management coordination and is happy to undertake core administrative duties.

Applications are welcome if you have relevant experience gained in mining, oil and gas, heavy industry or manufacturing. A mechanical or electrical Trade qualification would be terrific, but is not essential. Of greater importance, will be your general knowledge of maintenance works (non-process infrastructure) and ability to use SAP.

Supporting a diverse workforce

We know there are many aspects of our employees’ lives that are important, and work is only one of these, so we offer benefits to enable your work to fit with your life.  These benefits include flexible working options, a generous paid parental leave policy, other extended leave entitlements and parent rooms.

Important

The safety of BHP’s people and our candidates is our number one priority. To protect the health and safety of vulnerable persons in line with current Government advice, you may be asked to undergo a COVID-19 related health assessment.

Due to the unfolding circumstances of COVID-19 and the Government regulations in place to deal with the pandemic, your working location and/or roster as advertised in this advert may be temporarily subject to change whilst the government regulations are in place.
