About the role

Can you help us to utilise Control Systems to bring in the next stage of Integration and Automation? Are you able to lead a team to set the strategic direction and identify opportunities for new Control Systems implementation? Reporting to the Head of Systems Engineering, this position is spear heading the next wave of capability uplift through the provision of effectual technology solutions as the business moves to full site automation.
As the Manager of Control Systems, you will be responsible for;
  • Sustainable team development, health and safety and overall business conduct compliance for you and your team;
  • Provide input into the design of capital projects and support for the installation, commissioning and validation of control systems
  • Establish the strategic direction and drive input into the identification and evaluation of new technologies to support control systems.
  • Support the implementation of innovation aligned with the Technology roadmap maximising key business drivers at each asset.
  • The improvement of standards and blueprints for control systems;
  • Control Systems upgrades and Advanced Process Control technical capability;
  • Coordination and guidance of team resources and capabilities, internal and external, for their application to high value business projects according to Systems Engineering standards;
  • System lifecycle definition and maintenance;
  • Engaging with different work groups to reflect business requirements in the system requirements and corresponding functional design, implemented systems and ongoing maintenance processes;
  • Working in concert with all function areas of the business to identify and transform Control Systems capabilities across BHP asset’s value chains; and
  • Risk management and verification of solutions developed and deployed.

About You

We want you to be a clear and effective communicator that can relate to your team and key stakeholders. You will not be afraid to challenge the status quo and able to look at new and innovative solutions that can bring safety and productivity gains through the effective selection of control systems technologies. Coupled with business acumen you will have supported cross-functional teams in pursuit of transformation outcomes. Key Requirements for the role;  
  • Familiarity across standard computer software practices including development and vendor (COT’s) assessment methodologies is essential
  • Quantified experience in enabling sustainable change outcomes for Technology in an operating business.     
  • Ability to deal with complexity and distil key issues with excellent analytical skills
  • Experience in transforming the defined set of business requirements into a set of system and sub-system requirements specifications.
  • Experience in creating a product through buying, making, or reusing so as to satisfy the design requirements.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and Test and Evaluation methodology will be beneficial
  • Graduate qualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Previous experience supporting and guiding technical teams.
  • Demonstrated solution stewardship on technically complex projects would be considered highly beneficial
  • Exposure to automation and innovation
