About the role

If you are someone who likes to work in a fast-paced environment with an opportunity to shape BHP’s emerging data management practice, this role is for you.   In this position, you will be the driving force behind the Data Management Team, leading in the specification, consistent design, and implementation of BHP’s Data and Platform solutions across the business.   You will help develop BHP’s best data management professionals by enabling and coaching them on best practices, solution design, and presentation and communication skills.   Reporting to the Head of Data & Platforms, your key accountabilities will include:
  • Lead the data management team in information governance, data quality, information architecture and information asset management capabilities
  • Collaborate with the business and IT business partners on utilising information governance, data quality, information architecture and information asset management capabilities in support of achieving business operations and strategic goals and objectives
  • Define standards and drive automation for systematic review in an area such as metadata quality measurement, data lineage and end-to-end data management
  • Develop strategies and initiatives to improve overall data quality, improve processing times and anticipate future needs
  • Provide the leadership, motivation and environment necessary for building high performing teams that collaborate with business stakeholders
As this is a global role, you will be required to work flexible work hours to support teams in multiple time zones and domestic and international travel will be required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to be technically capable and credible in your own right as well as effective in shaping the solutions-focused skills of your team. You will have significant experience (5+ years) in enterprise data management and design. A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Technology or similar discipline is preferred. Your technical expertise is most likely agnostic, with deep knowledge of many platforms including big data, Hadoop, data management, data governance services, BI and analytics. Experience of integration services, SOA (Service Oriented Architectures) and API’s will see you thrive in this position, as will a good understanding of ISA95 and other relevant standards.
As the preferred candidate, your analytical, project management and systems thinking approach will be well refined, and you can understand and communicate highly technical information to non-technical audiences. Demonstrable experience in Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid Waterfall project methodologies is a requirement for this position. Your ability to lead and work effectively in a diverse and globally dispersed virtual team environment will be critical. You have superior interpersonal, communication, presentation and negotiation skills with the ability to influence, and build credibility and trust across all organisational levels. You are a strategic and creative thinker who is curious about new technology and has a proven background in applying technical solutions to commercial problems.
