About the role

We are seeking a motivated professional to join our team as a Manager in BHP’s new Portfolio Strategy & Development (PS&D) team in our Manila Office. 

In this role you will work closely with other PS&D teams around the globe, providing investment and decision evaluation services on some of BHP’s most material investment decisions. Together you will support PS&D’s ambition to provide independent, robust and high quality evaluations of proposed investment opportunities, taking into account risk and uncertainty. 

You will establish and lead this new team supporting the global PS&D team’s activities by providing high quality and standardised analytical services. You will also build the culture of the team, assisting with change leadership for our new ways of working and help to integrate the Manila team into the broader PS&D team.  

You will be leading a team that may be working on different shifts to support our global portfolio. As a result, preference will be given to applicants willing to work on flexible schedules, including evening hours. Further information will be provided during the interview process. 

Core Accountabilities

As part of the global PS&D team you will:
  • Work with other PS&D leaders to prioritise and allocate work for the Manila team
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control of the Manila team’s deliverables
  • Lead, manage, appraise and develop team members
  • Ensure the testing and auditing of financial models are completed in a timely, accurate and effective manner
  • Co-develop and maintain a set of economic model templates and accompanying modelling standards and training materials
  • Design and build standardised economic models
  • Use models to produce analysis and insights to support evaluation of investment decisions across our global portfolio

About You

You will have successfully completed a technical or business related undergraduate degree and a broadening post graduate qualification will be viewed favourably.  Experience within the resources, manufacturing or other capital intensive, process-driven industries would be an advantage, but is not a pre-requisite. Energetic and driven, you are self-motivated, have a strong attention to detail and are passionate about creating high quality deliverables. 

  • Degree qualification with at least 10 years working experience in economic modelling and/or valuations
  • Technical or financial undergraduate degree plus financial post-graduate with a recognized valuation focus (e.g. CFA, MBA) will be an added advantage

Experience & Technical Competencies
  • Leading small, analytical-focused teams 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, with a focus on best practice economic modelling
  • An understanding of corporate finance concepts and their practical application to asset valuations with an emphasis on using discounted cash flow modelling
  • Self-guided, independent, able to work autonomously and strives for continuous improvement
  • Intellectually curious, with a high-quality mindset

Non-Technical Competencies:
  • Fluent English, both verbal and written, is a requirement
  • Fluent Spanish will be an added advantage
