Potash is a potassium-rich salt mainly used in fertiliser to improve the quality and yield of agricultural production. As an essential nutrient for plant growth, potash is a vital link in the global food supply chain. BHP holds exploration permits and mining leases covering approximately 9,600 square kilometres in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Jansen Potash Project, located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, is BHP’s first potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to our global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4 Mtpa.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Human Resources (HR) team, based in Saskatoon, SK. This role is accountable for providing leadership, expertise, and advisory support in people management, remuneration, employee relations, and HR strategy. The role will lead the continued development and implementation of HR and workforce strategies, ensuring alignment to Potash and BHP business goals.  This role will report to the Head of HR for Canada and provide day-to-day leadership and support to the Potash HR team to deliver on priorities.

As the Manager HR, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Head of HR in establishing informed HR strategies, plans, and budgets that are aligned to BHP and Potash business goals;
  • Leading and coordinating the completion of appropriate project/study deliverables, work and workforce plans, and estimates for project phases including future operations;
  • Providing support for employee relations, labour relations or other HR issues as required;
  • Leading organisational development and change initiatives to support the Potash business and HR strategy;
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring progress against an integrated Culture plan and Inclusion & Diversity strategy
  • Defining and delivering appropriate approaches to Talent and Leadership Development, including capability assessments at various stages of the Project.
  • Oversee recruitment activity for Potash, ensuring strategic sourcing, and best practice talent attraction approaches are in place.
  • Ensuring accurate HR administration of end-to-end employee processes, ensure data accuracy, and deliver appropriate monthly reporting.

About You

The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline or the equivalent experience/education combination. You will need experience managing and developing a team of professionals. Experience with employee relations and aligning and implementing HR strategy would also be an asset, but is not a requirement.

Your communication and influencing skills will be key strengths and you will be experienced in dealing with an array of stakeholders at various levels within the business.  You are experienced at building relationships and collaborating with stakeholders across a number of teams and levels within the organization, locally and globally. You will be a self-starter who has an eye for detail and is agile to change.
