About the role

  • This role is based at the Blackwater mine, Central Queensland with the flexibility to discuss commute and residential options.

Blackwater mine is an open cut coal mine located in the Central Queensland south of the town of Blackwater, Queensland in the suburb of Stewarton. The mine has one of the largest coal reserves in Australia and the world. It produces thermal and coking coal that is sold domestically as well as being exported out of Gladstone to; India, the Americas, the Middle East, East Asia and South Asia.

Reporting to the General Manager, this challenging and exciting role will see you lead and develop a team of Mining Engineers to deliver safe and accurate mine designs and schedules at Black Water Mine. You will be the key stakeholder in engaging and integrating various support functions to align the longer term strategic direction and enablers.

In this role you will:
  • Provide inspirational leadership and effective management of the mine scheduling department including safety performance, costs and budgeting, workforce plan, culture plan and continuous improvement plan;
  • Lead, implement and embed a Compliance to Plan/Schedule process including performance reporting / production management;
  • Develop site based TARPs to enable 90 day plan stability and monitor performance relative to trigger levels for re-planning and escalate as required with the GM Mine;
  • Manage the integration of various project aspects with site operations;
  • Lead the identification and management of schedule risks, providing ongoing communications to relevant stakeholders and solution identification including prioritization and realignment of mine priorities;
  • Encourage and develop a collaborative relationship with operational managers to deliver the operational budget in accordance with changing commercial conditions; and
  • Foster a safe to speak up environment to team members to work effectively with customers to achieve the best business outcomes.
This is a critical role that will enable you to utilise your mine planning and leadership skills while gaining broad exposure across the operation, as well as influencing the performance of your team.  You will also have access to a supportive and results-oriented leadership team. 

About You

You will be a degree qualified engineer with relevant dragline operations and a background in an open cut environment. You have successfully led high performing teams on delivering executable mine plans and schedules or you are driven to take this next step in your career.

As the successful applicant you will also have:  
  • Solid proven experience working in a technical services or mine planning role in an open cut environment, ideally with dragline experience;
  • The ability and desire to lead, coach and mentor a team of engineers to ensure optimal delivery against performance and safety targets;
  • Well-developed communication skills and an ability to work across various stakeholders;
  • Acumen to bring together systems and processes to assist the team in achieving their best;
  • Ability to develop relationships with senior leadership and across operational groups; and
  • Demonstrated leadership of large, diverse teams where you drive change and create a positive high-performance culture.
