About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for you to join the Group Internal Audit & Advisory (IAA) team as part of the BHP External Affairs function.

IAA’s purpose is to provide independent and objective assurance over the Group’s governance and internal control processes to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of BHP. We achieve this by planning and executing high quality audits across the world, using a collaborative and engaging approach with our stakeholders. We work in a fast paced and challenging environment and deliver more than 30 audits per year. We also provide targeted advisory services related to governance, risk management and internal control processes.

The Operational Assurance team conducts internal audits of Asset Integrity, Maintenance, Safety, Health, Environment, Closure, Reserves, and other Technical Processes. We are seeking a Manager who will provide leadership in the delivery of the approved internal audit plan by effectively and efficiently managing engagements across our global Businesses and Assets, with high quality standards, stakeholder engagement and value orientation.

In this role, you will:
  • Engage with stakeholders in the planning, execution and reporting of internal audits. Develop and maintain relationships with the business.
  • Manage multiple concurrent audit projects, ensuring they are appropriately planned, resourced and monitored to deliver the approved scope with a high degree of quality.
  • Provide objective, complete, practical and professionally written internal audit reports that add value and supports stakeholder’s decision-making.
  • Ensure internal audits are performed in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter, relevant Our Requirements and professional and IAA standards
  • Lead the audit team in delivering internal audits that are value-oriented, risk-focused and involves participation of guest auditors. Provide performance through timely feedback, coaching, mentoring and recognition.
  • Provide clarity over complex issues and act as a catalyst for positive change by challenging assumptions, promoting critical thinking and helping the business change processes
  • Contribute to the development of the annual internal audit plan. Challenge the status quo and identify opportunities to improve functional practices.

About You

You will have strong demonstrated experience in the resource or oil & gas industry, in HSEC, maintenance, processing or operations. You have strong influencing skills and are able to analyse complex business, operational and HSEC processes, risk factors and control systems on a global basis.

Your well-developed project management skills are paramount as is the ability to successfully lead and motivate a team of professionals in delivery of an engagement. You build effective working relationships quickly and can communicate effectively through both verbal written and communications, including reporting.

Your natural ability to promote an environment where the team is continually developed, and consistently collaborates and effectively partners with key stakeholders will be highly regarded.

Along with a relevant degree qualification, understanding of auditing process or experience in the internal auditing will be well regarded.
