About the role

Reporting to the General Manager Area C you will be responsible for leading the Processing Production Department to safely and cost effectively execute the ore processing production plan:
  • As a Section 44 Appointed Person, you are required to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Mines Safety Inspection Regulations 
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership to promote a culture of zero harm through appropriate time in the field utilising effective Layered Audits, Critical Control Observations, Planned Task Observations, Take Time Talks and the endorsement of the quality of Take 5's and JHA's
  • Develop and communicate annual departmental performance targets aligned with the Mine Strategy and Business Plan
  • Positively influence and shape a pro-active and engaging team culture to ensure a safe, productive, quality disciplined and sustainable approach to work
  • Lead the development of employees through coaching & mentoring and ensuring short to medium term talent and succession planning is in place
  • Lead transformational initiatives and role models change to ensure successful delivery and alignment with strategy
  • Support and manage the implementation of human resources policies and procedures
  • Participate within the Site Leadership team to develop the Site business plan 
  • Set the vision, strategy and long term goals for the Processing Production Department
  • Lead the Processing Production work cycle to ensure supplied tonnes of ore are processed to correct quality and separation standards
  • Lead the optimisation of the Processing Production process and ensure operational excellence in the Processing facilities
  • Manage the planning and scheduling of all work in accordance with the 1SAP work management processes. In particular, ensure collaboration with Fixed Plant Maintenance in order to agree on a weekly Maintenance schedule of work
  • Ensure trains are loaded according to specifications and standards
  • Develop operating and capital forecasts and budgets for the Processing Production Department

About You

Your demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring large, multidisciplinary teams in a complex environment will contribute to your success in this role. Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills will be critical in ensuring you effectively manage relationships with a range of stakeholders. With a tertiary qualification in Process/Mining Engineering, Metallurgy or equivalent you will have a strong working knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations and a proven track record when it comes to safety management. 

BHP consistently strive for excellence and as such, previous experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as LEAN will be highly advantageous. 

A C Class Driver’s License is mandatory for this position. 


You will be based at our ‘Area C’ mine site on a fly-in fly-out 5/2 4/3 9/5 roster.  Our Area C mine is located approximately 100kms North West of Newman, West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court, beach volleyball court and recreation room including a pool table, darts, table tennis, TV and DVD player. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
