Potash is a potassium-rich salt mainly used in fertiliser to improve the quality and yield of agricultural production. As an essential nutrient for plant growth, potash is a vital link in the global food supply chain. BHP holds exploration permits and mining leases covering approximately 9,600 square kilometres in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. 
The Jansen Potash Project, located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, is BHP’s first potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to our global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4 Mtpa.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team, based in Saskatoon, SK. This role is accountable for providing leadership, vision, and direction to the Production team. The team is accountable for the development of production knowledge within the operations team to deliver optimal outcomes in safety, productivity, and cost for the Jansen Mine Site operations.  This role will report to the Head of Production for Potash and provide day-to-day leadership and support to the production team to deliver on priorities.

As the Manager Production, you will be responsible for: 
  • Optimizing and implementing the Production Readiness Plan for inclusion in the Project schedule and cost estimates. Including managing planned 3rd party support contracts through the project development phase of the Jansen project.
  • Providing operational leadership into the identification of the most critical elements of production at a broad system level in order to prioritize the effort in project development and operations phases.
  • Managing the development and deployment of the production standards and procedures and systems across the business
  • Recruiting the future production team to align with BHP Charter of Values,  and Potash vision for diversity
  • Leading the team to develop the production program for the Jansen Operation including fostering team culture and setting clear routines to maximize time in field
  • Owning risks by managing, developing, and implementing all controls. 


About You

The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline or the equivalent experience/education combination. You will need experience managing and leading a team within a heavy industrial environment (underground mining preferred, soft rock or Potash mining experience an asset). Experience with developing procedures using technology is also an asset. The successful candidate will have past experience in contract management and budgeting. 

Your communication and influencing skills will be key strengths and you will be experienced in dealing with an array of stakeholders at various levels within the business.  You are experienced at prioritizing different projects or resources, and adapting to changing priorities and emerging issues. You will demonstrate strong decision-making skills and proven experience in building a diverse team and developing capability within an existing team.  
This role will be based in Saskatoon initially and within a period of 2-3 years is expected to transition to being based at the Jansen site.
