About the role

We are currently seeking a dynamic, insightful and inquisitive people leader to manage the Rail Infrastructure Portfolio for our Port Hedland Rail Operation. You will have substantial experience managing large teams in a complex multi-faceted environment, whilst influencing a positive, productive and safe workforce culture. Overseeing Track Infrastructure Reliability, Asset Integrity, Signalling and Communications Maintenance, you will report to the General Manager, Rail on a Residential or FIFO roster.

About You

You will have a passion for safety that is second to none and the ability to lead and inspire your team to achieve results, whilst emulating the company values in all tasks they undertake, creating a culture of respect, inclusion and teamwork.

The successful applicant will also have: 
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or relevant maintenance or related technical discipline
  • Substantial leadership and Relevant industry/organisational experience
  • A proven track-record of safety and risk management.
  • Working knowledge of Rail Safety National Law Act & Regulations.
  • Solid understand of the operational requirements within a rail network (preferred)
  • Strong commercial acumen and financial literacy 
  • Highly developed analytical, problem solving and decision making ability


In this role you will be on a residential 5/2 or FIFO 5/2/4/3 roster based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 15,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities. 

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. Should you select the residential option you will be provided with a rental accommodation allowance in accordance with BHP Iron Ore’s Housing policy.
