About the role

Technology is changing the way we operate and we now require a new thought leader to keep us at the forefront of safety and sustainability across the entire supply chain from exploration to shipping of product. This global position will report into the VP Strategy, Portfolio & Performance, and steer BHP’s future through the application of current and emerging cutting edge technologies 

Your mission is to set the Technology strategy by constantly learning, trying new things, finding innovative solutions to problems and discovering creative ways to deliver value and transform productivity, safety and culture.
Key accountabilities to include; 
  • Provide thought leadership and advice on Technology projects for the now and the future.
  • Set the Company-wide strategy and overarching narrative of the long-term competitive advantage delivered via technology.
  • Integrate the Technology Function Technical Roadmaps as part of an overall strategy platform.
  • Provide guidance to the Assets and Functions plans that interface with the technology strategy.
  • Translate the strategy into Concepts of Operation.
  • Prepare and coordinate Technology’s input into Group Portfolio Strategy & Development’s scenarios, external communications and Board engagements relating to the Company technology strategy.
  • Refresh and track progress against the strategy in delivering growth and value.
  • Create a strategic framework to support the selection Technology related research, investigations and studies. 
  • Ensuring the Technology strategy is aligned and embedded into the overarching Business strategy.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to a team Practice Leads and Principals within Innovation. 

About You

We are looking for trailblazers and pioneers within technology to be bold and continue on this journey with us. Ideally someone who has worked at senior levels and perfected key stakeholder engagement. You will inspire and challenge what is possible and be a champion for change.    

Your experience in both digital and non-digital technologies could be in a variety of industries as long as you can embrace change and transform a company. 

Key criteria include;
  • Our team is global so you will need to be excited about travel. 
  • STEM Qualification essential.
  • MBA advantageous.
  • Experience operating and managing a large technology function with in-depth knowledge of infrastructure and applications environments.
  • Transformation and organisational change experience with evidence of thought leadership.
  • Enterprise wide strategy development in a digital or technology discipline
  • Ability to integrate concepts/ models into a complete vision or solution for which there is no previous experience or road map.
  • Significant stakeholder engagement experience across a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholder groups.
  • General IT Experience ie: brokering applications, asset management, migration planning, SLAs, software engineering, security, data interchange, data management, etc.
  • Implementing and embedding effective process improvement initiatives.
  • Must possess strong business acumen.
  • Business process mapping, knowledge of ITIL.
