About the role

We are currently looking for qualified mechanical fitter technicians to join our Field Equipment Maintenance team at Jimblebar. 
These roles are fly-in fly-out, from Peth to Newman, 8 days on, 6 days off, and 7 nights on, 7 days off roster. Based at our Jimblebar mine site, you will be part of BHP’s first fully autonomous haulage site.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Field Equipment Maintenance, some of your responsibilities may include:
  • Preventative maintenance, repairs, and fault finding on Mobile fleet consisting of Liebherr 996 & 9400 excavators, Epiroc PV271 & D65 Surface Drill Rigs. 
  • Following specific maintenance programs and carrying out inspections on mobile fleet as required;
  • Execute work orders as per schedule and to a high standard;
  • Carrying out daily inspections on the Mobile Fleet in pit and workshop as required;
  • Completing inspections and repairs as per the maintenance strategies on the mentioned fleet;  
  • Identifying and rectifying faults during inspections;
  • Creating 1SAP notifications for repair on mobile fleet using OEM schematic drawings, manuals and SIS;
  • Scoping and creating 1SAP notifications for preventative work the mobile fleet;
  • Working from OEM schematic drawings, manuals, and SIS;
  • Initiate updates to work procedures to ensure they are accurate and relevant to equipment;
  • Assisting in implementation of 5S, Safety improvement projects and standardized work;
  • Provide input into root cause analysis and subsequent resolution of issues affecting equipment reliability;
  • Ensure returns of unused or reparable materials are processed accurately; and
  • Assist the Supervisor with rescheduling of work, organising and coordinating resources, scoping of work and determining priorities.

About You

To be considered for the role we are seeking out the following skill sets:
  • Mandatory: C Class Licence; and
  • Mandatory for Mechanical Technician: Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Fitter Trade Qualification,
Experience, skills and knowledge desirable:
  • HR Class Licence (not mandatory but preferred)
  • Sound diagnostic abilities;
  • Exposure to shift or FIFO work advantageous;
  • Willingness to learn;
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely in a team environment;
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, implementing new initiatives in a constructive way; and
  • Computer Literacy (SAP CAT SIS exposure is advantageous).

Location Jimblebar is now an autonomous truck mine the first Greenfield mine in over 40 years to be both developed and operated by BHP Billiton Iron Ore. It is located 40kms North East of Newman, Western Australia. The outstanding facilities at the brand new FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, golf driving nets, outdoor cinema, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court; beach volleyball court, games room and TV lounge. All rooms at the village have access to 3G wireless internet and Skype, an ensuite bathroom, flat screen television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
