About the role

There are multiple roles available across the areas of Dragline planning, Drill and blast planning and Truck and Shovel Planning – so tell us where your interest and development opportunities are! These roles operate on an 8 on 6 off roster, working back to back with another peer. This Central Qld Peak Downs Mine Site based role, are open to flexible residential work arrangements.

Reporting to the Superintendent Planning, as a Mining Engineer in either Draglines and/or Drill & Blast and/or Truck & Shovel in the expanding Mine Planning team you will be engaged in providing design, scheduling and execution direction around the +1 to 12 week time frame to our Peak Downs Operation. This role will provide you the opportunity to gain experience in many aspects of Mine Planning; more specifically in Draglines design & scheduling, Drill & Blast design & scheduling as well as Truck/Shovel Prestrip design and scheduling.  Use your already solid mine planning skills and experience in this busy and challenging short-term mine planning role to develop effective working relationships with the operational and medium-term planning teams, in order to ensure the efficient execution of your plans and schedules.

This is a great opportunity to hone your mine planning and leadership skills as well as further develop a deep understanding of the key value drivers of a large complex open cut mining operation. You will gain exposure to a variety of stripping operations and mine geology whilst seeing the results of your work being implemented. You will also have access to a supportive, inclusive and results-oriented leadership team.

Your responsibilities:
  • Prepare Dragline and/or Drill & blast and/or Truck & Shovel designs and schedules;
  • Build relationships with and obtain buy in from the operations teams for plans, schedules and designs; 
  • Develop and follow the Production Planning standards and processes;
  • Participate in the investigation of reported events for Production Planning;
  • Participate in training for Production Planning;
  • Identify and implement Production Planning improvement initiatives;
  • Develop the design for formulation of the budget;
  • Build cross-functional relationship with the Operational sub-functions and interact extensively with the Planning sub-functions;
  • Ensure that productivity is maximised buy leveraging the key value drivers of coal uncovery, minimising re-handle and material diggablity;
  • Identify interactions and key enabling activities and put plans in place to manage these;
  • Build relationships and work closely with other mine planning sub functions (Prestrip, Coal Quality, Geology, Survey and medium term planning).

About You

As the successful candidate, you will have a tertiary education in Engineering and previous experience working at a large Coal Mining operation, particularly planning for Draglines and/or Truck & Shovel and/or Drill & Blast fleets.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, allowing you to build relationships across departments and to communicate at all levels. A strong working knowledge of Vulcan, XACT, and the Microsoft Office suite is essential and previous exposure to Blast Logic and HaulInfinity software will be advantageous.
